What am I doing wrong?!? I sanded to 1200 grit. If feels like glass but when I take a pass under the buffer it sure doesn’t shine like it. Should I spend more time a couple grits lower to higher? Could I have gone too deep and if so what next? Use white rouge correct? I read the old threads but I didn’t get anywhere...thanks!

i would go to 2000 grit, but it should still be shining at 1200. there are probably spots that still have lower grit scratches, and those wont shine. its hard to tell without seeing a photo of the handle.

To add to what the others said -
You aren't at 1200 unless all the scratches from 100/220/400/800 are gone. I regularly see people moving up the grits way too soon (including me, sometimes).
G-10 is HARD stuff … it's glass … it takes good abrasives and some time to sand it smooth.

What are you using as a buffing compound?
Is the wheel clean of other compounds?
Don't buff too hard. Light passes with a lightly charged (cleaned) wheel will get the best results.

I thought I was using a clean buffing wheel but wasn’t. I was using white compound, can’t remember where I got it but wanna say TruGrit. Now that I look closer I see I need to spend more time on lowergrits before moving up. Be gentle...3rd knife I’ll finish.

Yep, definitely need to spend more time at lower grits.

Watch Nick Wheeler's "hand sanding 101" video on you tube, it'll change your life.

I don t know what wrong you do , it is so easy to polish carbon .Five minutes hand polish with auto polishing compound do the work for me ? But I don t like it shine.....800 grit finish look much better to me

One more thing , polishing wheel can easy overheat any material , maybe you do just that ...? maybe you melt epoxy in carbon and you get that blurry finish ?
PS. Try finish sanding with 800 grit under running water , but clean it well when you finish it and see if you like that ?
