Just sent an e-mail to CRK asking about carbon fibre inlays on a classic sebenza. They said they can't do it yet BUT it is something Chris is looking into!:D :) :D
Great news i'm sure you'll agree. Just thought I'd share the news:D
just think about that carbon fibre with the blue or red tint in it ( I cant remember what it is called). Kind of gives you a warm feeling inside.

...........nice stag inlays myself! But some carbon fiber and/or micarta and G-10 would be cool.

mmmmmm....STAG.....

G-10 would be top on my list for a large classic inlay...but my dream large reg. inlay would have to be Sambar stag.

I promised the wife that I'd curtail the spending for a few months !! Hmmm, I'll have to buy her that new kitvhen ware from Williams-Sonoma to buy her off on this knife if it happens. Stinky

I'd be interested in the stag or carbon fiber :D

I know I will be labeled as a heretic with my blasphemy but here it goes...

A Mnandi with CF or G-10 inserts?

(I can hear the bullets whistling over my head as I scatter away)

Guys, please don't hold your breath - "Looking into" can cover quite a long time frame!:) :)

Actually I spoke with Chris in a quite lengthy phone conversation several months ago about using carbon fiber. He went on about how difficult, and hazardous, it is to work with. At present the factory does not have the machines capable to work with the stuff properly. As some of you may know, Chris is very meticulous about his work. He said he's looking into it though. Not to rule it out, but don't look for it any time soon.

I too would really like to see some Sebenza's inlayed with materials other than wood or leather! Once in a great while he will use different types of bone in his limited production runs of Sebenza's, but as of now I personally have only seen giraffe bone. Keep your eyes peeled, I'm certain he has some future tricks and surprises up his sleeve...

...too see if anyone has heard more about carbon fiber inlays. I think that would be the straw that broke the camels back for me. I'd have to buy one then.

Why inlay anythimg on the non locking side! Just change the whole side with G10., carbon fiber, etc...like the Strider SNG. I think that's cooool!!dannyv

Actually, I am in the process of doing it myself but waiting for some colored G10 materials. Pray for me! dannyv

Wow Barry, nice job! Are the scales textured or does it just look that way?

Thanks,
It's actually very textured. I formed the shape of the overlays first, then I sanded with a spindle sander and a dremel to achieve my overall shape. Then I took a rotozip carbide cutter designed to cut tile (very aggressive) and ran it over the overlays to achieve a terraced effect. Net result is a very tactile grip. Plus I used 1/8" overlays so my net thickness is 3/4", almost identical to my Strider AR. I got big hands==I can't seem to put this one down:D

Barry :
that looks awesome sir. May I ask what you used to attach the CF to the Ti slabs ? And did you have to do anything to the TI before hand ?

that is one I wish CRK would make...CF rocks !

excellent job !
:D

Whoah, blast from the past.

I've had a rethink on the matter. Two words.

.45guy,
I used a semi-permanant adhesive. I have had it in place for one month so far and I have used the knife daily, sometimes to extreme hand help pressure. I did nothing to the ti slabs before hand, but I have been known to refinish ti slabs with a ceramic blasting compound which leaves a very Carson-like finish to the handles. The adhesive (and carbon fiber) ought to be able to be removed, if one wanted, leaving the knife in it's original state.
It was a fun project:)
Any one wanting to duplicate this effect, let me know!:)
