Carbon fibre on edc

G'day
Im after some feedback on how carbon fibre holds up in edc use,
I've had a delica frn and para2 with black g10 as users for a while now and have been happy but just bought another gayle Bradley to carry and the carbon fibre just looks so damn nice, it looks like it will damage easily and I'm worried the cf won't take nicely to being put in a toolbox and dropped on hard surfaces etc

Is it as tough as g10 or will the fibers start showing if it chips on the edges?
Never used a cf scaled knife before so not sure what to expect

Cheers rusty

It's a carbon fiber + G10 laminate. It's pretty tough, but if you drop it on concrete from a few feet, you'll get a dent on almost anything.

CF is a tough hombre be that regular or CF/G10 laminate as on the GB. The only ones that are somewhat prone to mess ups are the LSCF ones since the wire threads can become exposed. That can damage the scale and bite your hand.

I can tell you for certain that peel-ply CF is more resistant to scratching and normal wear and tear than peel ply G-10. I have a peel-ply CF Stretch that's seen lots of pocket time, another that's brand new, and I'd defy anyone to tell which is which by looking at the scales. And, since the "twill texture" CF used on the Bradley is the same as that used on the CF Chaparral, I can tell you that it should hold up very well to any normal wear and tear.

I received a 2010 used GB and the handle looks new despite uses (can see drom the blade). Tough stuff, even hides scratches better than my Resilienxe' G10z

The only wear I have seen on any CF knife is where the clip rides on my Caly 3 CF. It uses the smooth CF, and if you are looking for it and get the light right, you can make out the wire clip wear marks on it. I treat it no differently than G10 or FRN personally. The only material I have that really shows wear is Ti, and that still doesn't bother me, it is character. My Gayle Bradley and Sage look brand new as far as the scales go.

I've got quite a few Spydies with CF of different types (peel ply, twill, smooth) and have good things to say about all of them. The only production Spydie that I've ever had issues with the CF is the original CF Chicago. They had some manufacturing difficulties with this original release (not with the newer 440C/G10 models). Mine was mechanically sound, but the CF chipped around the screw holes and a little on the edge. Just a QC problem with this model (and its companion, the Cat). I don't count these as "typical" and Spyderco has certainly upped their game with CQI over the past few years.

Ok that's just what I wanted to hear :)
if it's as tough as g10 I'll be happy and it's sounding like its even stronger so this ones going to be a keeper,
m4 looks great with a patina as well against the grey cf so my paramilitary2 will be on the shelf for a while

Cheers

The thing I will caution you about with the laminated G10/carbon fiber is that if you drop it, as I have, you may get a separation at the lamination line, which you would not get with solid carbon fiber (have dropped those, too). I'm not trying to wave you off, just want your expectations to be realistic.

I could deal with that, if I dropped it it's my own fault anyway and scratches add character

Do you know how thick the top cf laminate Is on the gayle Bradley?
I tried to tell by looking at the side of the scale but couldn't see a line between the cf and g10
