Carbon steel 80CrV2, 59 HRC
Anyone have any idea how this would hold up for a throwing knife?

Supposed to be a very tough steel , so probably do fine with proper geometry (thick edges) for throwing .

Honestly, I don't like knives with that high of a hardness. I find that they snap more easily than knives in the lower 50s or even upper 40s. Throwing knives don't need to have a sharp edge, especially if throwing rotational 1/2 spins. I doubt I could cut a banana without crushing it with any of my 200+ different throwing knives.

It actually throws relatively well and held up very nicely but I agree with you. It’s not meant for throwing. It’s actually a large bushcraft Sax. I just have to be able to throw my bush knives cause I read too many books as a kid. These are the dimensions

  • Total length: 430 mm (16.9")
  • Weight (knife only): 525 g (18.50 oz)
  • Blade length: 240 mm (9.45")
  • Blade width: 46 mm (1.8")
  • Blade thickness: 4.2 mm (0.17")
  • Main edge: 34° for chopping
  • Base edge: 25° for finer work
  • Steel: Carbon steel 80CrV2, 59 HRC
  • Grip: Molded rubber, rough texture

I just have to be able to
I throw many knives that are not intended to be .

I pad the wood targets with layers of cardboard .

And I'm careful to not throw one knife into another that's stuck in already .

Watch out for rocks and junk on the ground and surroundings .

For your own safety from rebounds , throw at an offset angle to the target , not straight on .
