I recently finished this for a friend of the family. 8" blade chef's knife in 26C3 steel, 63HRC. I really like the figure of the walnut. It has nice chatoyance when held in the light. The blade took on an auto hamon, and it was only profiled prior to heat treat (no bevels ground). I don't know why that happened, it's all over the place (luckily not near the edge), and was unwanted, so I didn't bother etching it. You can just barely see it when held at certain angles. I shortened the handle from 5" to 4.5" and it feels much much better in the grip. I think it looks better and is slightly better balanced. Always trying to move forward, or upward, or inward, or ...whatever. Anyway...thanks for looking!
