With the demise of Schrade, my hunt is on for carbon steel folders. Nothing fancy, just good old 1095 or the like.

I know Cam did once (still kicking myself for not picking up a few new), but are there any currently sold?

Thanks. :)

click on the Camllus link at the top of this page and enjoy yourself. Just shortly after Schrade's demise, Camillus began the 'Gran'Pa' series. Good old 1095 and two-tone delrin handles. The best copies of the classic Old Timer Schrades I've seen. And Made in the USA.

many of them--the delrin handles and the buffalo horn-- are made by Camillus and are all 1095.

Check out (search) Moore Maker in the traditional knife forum for lots of opinions about them-- mostly highly thought of.

MMs are a bit pricey, it looks like. Are they worth it?

You can find them cheaper at e-bay and from some independent dealers. Are they worth it? I know what you are saying--if the working knives put out by Mooremaker are made by Camillus, why the price difference between a MM and a Camillus knife? And also, why the price diffference between their bone handled knives (made by Queen) and a Queen knife? To me, I'd just as soon have a Camillus or a Case at a more reasonable price, but their production in 1095 is pretty limited.

I will say the same thing that others on the traditional forum have said--that the Mooremakers are high quality. It is nice to have at least one of them as an EDC or in a collection.

I think I may start checking EPrey and other places for MMs. I've always liked the Remington-style large trapper, and would like to find one to try.
