I like them. Be an old farmer I like to see the old timers sharpening their cases, schardes, slip joints on their little pocket stones they carried. It seem to relaxe them and it does me when I touch up my 52100 spydercos. I use tuffglide on them for rust and have a few rust spots on them, but so what. They will out last me. I hope spyderco comes out with some more carbon steel knives. I wouldn't care to see a military or para in 1095. I still kinda like M4, M390, CTS-204P. Lol

Plain edge H1 sharpens like carbon steel, oddly enough.

You're getting your wish in the next couple months, V Toku2 is a fairly simple carbon steel with only a small amount of alloying elements in it.

I would love to see any of the Golden knives released in 1095 or 5160.
A Manix 2 LW or Military in a nice simple carbon steel would be something I would love to carry and use.

5160 in a folder doesnt make good use of it. id prefer 01 or a2 over 1095 and 5160....but im good with the variety of steels spyderco already offers.

Why not???
We got little folders in 3v.
At least 5160 don’t cost a mint and it machines easily.

same with 3v. dont really get the benefits of the steel in a small folder. yeah im okay with 3v as its unique right now so kt has that going for it........but i have a 110 and 112 buck folder in 5160. its okay but its not the best choice. my point is if spyderco did a 5160 in a smaller folder i wouldnt buy it. i got no need for it. a bigger fixed blade id consider it. course maybe im the only one who doesnt find 5160 a great steel choice for a folder? im okay with that.

I think you actually could take advantage of 3V’s toughness in a folder. It would allow you to run a thinner blade/edge with the stability of a thicker blade/edge. 3V at 58-60hrc would allow for excellent wear resistance, pretty good corrosion resistance when compared to other carbon steels and an increased toughness. Run that in a knife like the Military/PM2 and you would be able to have a stronger tip with out making it thicker and sacrificing the cutting performance. My dream folder is a CPM3V bladeD Military. Cru-Wear is close but 3V would be better.

People think toughness needs to be reserved for large large choppers. Does it shine there? Yes. Can that toughness carry over to a valid folder application? Absolutely.

thats why i said "dont really get the benefits of 3v in a small folder." and ya dont really. larger folder sure ya get some of it, but not as much as in a fixed blade. im okay with 3v in a folder as i said for the rareness of it in production stuff right now. 5160...no thanks.

I also worry about using carbon steel on a folder, particularly if it is uncoated or not laminated steel.

Sure you keep the blade clean and dry, free from rust. But then you open up the knife for maintenance and see that there is rust growing where it is difficult to access regularly. What would be awesome would be a folder with an uncoated carbon steel blade, but the area of the blade covered by the scales would be DLC coated.

They made a Military and Para2 in 52100 which is very similar. I wouldn't expect a 1095 or 5160 though. A Manix2LW in 52100 would get my money. :)

I’m a huge fan of carbon steel and tool steel spydies. Now that I think about it, actually all the Spyderco’s that I currently have are non-stainless.

I’d love to see a shaman in 3v or cruwear or m4 with natural or brown micarta... Hurry up and take my money!

i,m a big fan of carbon steel's,i got there 52100 about two months ago and really enjoy using this one, thinking about picking another one up just to keep in my collection, yes its that good!!!!
