just bought one of the 2001(year model per blade) Stockman's today from my local Buck dealer, and i have to tell you, that the quality control person who should have inspected it must have been asleep or stoned or something. the edge on the blades look like someone put them on with an extremely course grinding wheel. its taken me the better part of 6 hours to hone them down to a nice smooth edge.
i had to go to my regular dealer to get a US made buck knife. i was in wal-mart and saw a nice little 3 blader buck with what looked like brown laminated handles. i bought it, took it home and looked at it alittle closer to discover "China" on the smallest blade. i PROMPLY returned it back to wal-mart and went to another dealer and purchased the 3 blade "Stockman".
i have to say i am/was VERY disappointed to see "China" on the blade, and im also pretty discussed to see the edge on the "Stockman's" blade's. Buck has always had very good quality control, and this is the first one ive ever purchased that was in this sort of condition.
also, the "China" buck was the first one ive ever seen. ive been a long long time Buck fan and user, but i can say without batting an eyelash that if buck is now having there knives made in "China" i wont be buying anymore new Buck's.
on an up note though, i did manage to find an OLD #110 at a local pawnshop today ( 1940ish) that looks like it was never even sharpened with hardly a ding in it. it didnt have a sheith, and i payed a whopping 10.00 for it. the pawnbroker said it came out of an old estate sale with a bunch of other stuff (alot of other old bucks, but all look to have been used/sharpened to death..lol) ......
dont get me wrong, i've just never had a thing for knive's that said "China" on them. im sure if it says "Buck" on it, its good quality, but i bought the american made stockman for a whole 5.00 more.

The 110 only came out in 1963-4, just FYI.
