Those old Carbon V Recon Tantos were pretty popular. I recall just the other day seeing one in "Chronicles of Riddick" falling to the floor When Riddick did him with the Tea Cup.
The Carbon V SRK's were even more popular as they were a more useful size ( than the Trailmaster/recon scout) and only cost around $50-60 back then. I liked the SRK, didn't have much use for the Tanto despite it's excellent steel and heat treat.
I seem to recall paying around $80-90 for my recon scout I bought to go along with the SRK. This was before internet knife buying for me. Looking back I bought my first online knife from a knife store ( knifecenter) in 2005 or so.
Before that it was gun shows or places like Brigade Quartermaster which seemed to always be sold out of the Trailmaster. I began using the Catalog from Brigade in the 80's and even went down to the Store on a trip to atlanta, and went shooting and was there to help film a video at Mitchell Werbell III 's ranch which had it's own shooting range. I recall seeing the old empty buildings that used to house the tooling for M.A.C. 9's, 11's, etc. They were produced right there in Powder Springs before the tooling was sold. Mitchell Werbell and Son both were interesting types.
