I have seen magicians "scale" or throw cards like shuriken. And I have also once seen gimmick cards with a metal cutting edge. Has anyone ever tried this out?

never tried the actual throwing cards. but regular cards can hurt pretty badly when thrown correctly, me and my friends used to throw them at eachother.

Ive thrown playing card and know several people who throw steel cards. The steel cards are basically rectangular throwing stars. Put a good spin on them and theyll stick. Basically the same goes for playing cards. Hold it between your middle finger and thumb. Put your index finger on the corner of the card. Throw with a good flick of the wrist. You have to balance out the force of the throw with the amount of spin you put on it. Not really hard but it takes some practice.

I used to do this while walking down the hallways in highschool! I even got one stuck in the second story ceiling tile from the ground floor. I've never actually hurt anyone with them though. What an enjoyable trip down memory lane.:D

Yeah playing cards fly pretty far, I can toss it rhough a sheet or 2 of newspapers, and I guess it can kinda hurt. It's a gimmicky party trick to do not for true self defence!

I happen to be a magician. Have performed magic as my only source of income since 1992. Anyway, there is a book by Ricki Jay called "Cards as Weapons". He can throw a regular card right through a watermelon. Pretty cool.

i used to throw card a while ago, it's pretty fun. i think the trick is not to throw it like you throw a frisbee, but rather coil your arm up and bring your hand back to the shoulder on the same side.
