cardboard / duct tape sheaths on ebay?

No offense brother...I think it's hilarious. Andy says it takes him 2 hours to make 'em!

hmm ever hear of canvas its not much more than the carboard ones are going for and I sure would trust it alot more. I find it amusing it has multiple bids already. Ebay:jerkit:

Thats pretty sweet. Not my style but i can see it being used by someone who goes through tough places where they might destroy a nicer sheath and where a nicer sheath wouldnt be neccesarry.

As in hunting or woodsloafing versus Combat zones.

If anyone understands that. :D

You should see these pups.

He brought one to the Indy show a while back. I about crapped.

Tough, heavy duty feel.

About a roll of tape per it felt like.

Andy does some fine fine work.

Believe it or not but I made one myself for my Howling Rat. Just because I don’t have a proper sheet for it. It is a sheet and I can carry the knife onto my belt. I used about 10 meter of ductape so its almost bullet-proof but not water-resistant. It also not really ‘jump safe’. Its okay for now but im in the market for a real one, and thereby I mean leather or kydex.

Glad you find my bidding amusing, wicked1.
I might look fresh here, but I couldn't remember my old login information (been a member since 2002).
Andy tries to raise money for a future rat purchase (don't we all?),
and I know he has a genuine interest in rats.
This time I saw an opportunity to help him a little bit financially while getting something back.

If Andy says the sheath is more sturdy than you'd suppose by looking at it; I believe him.

Take care,
Gunnar

no offense intended just cardboard for a fairly expensive knife seems absurd. I know when I go out I am going to end up wet at one point or another and well cardboard probably wont last too long. It just struck me as a cheesy ebay only type item. Now that I have heard more about it and the motivation for it then more power to you. Not everyday someone does something for good intentions thats always good to hear. Again no offense intended.

In regards to waterproofing, I make similar sheaths, mainly for larger blades like bolos and such which you buy that never have sheaths. You can make them waterproof. After you lay down the templates run a bead of 5 minute expoxy or similar against the one that the edge will make contact with and then duct tape right down over the template. Press seal it against the bottom and then work it over the top. There is no cardboard exposed if you look down in the sheath or anywhere else. If you soak it long enough you can get water to seep in around the tape but it takes awhile. Just take a square of cardboard and wrap it in tape well and see how long it takes for water to get through the tape. On a really silly note they are better than kydex for extreme temperatures because Kydex cracks when cold and deforms when hot and the cardboard ignores both.
