I've come into possession of a Tapio Wirkkala puukko knife. The blade is in excellent condition but the handle is a bit dirty and there's a bit of tarnish on the brass bits. The leather sheath looks good but there's a thin loop that has degraded over the years. My question is, what's the best way to clean it up and maintain the knife and sheath, while preserving its value? Thanks very much for any advice.

That knife was produced in Two sizes, what I an se, you have the bigger size. The small size was produced in a smaller serial.

I use a small size during the sixties for some years and I liked it a lot. I still have it. I broke of the tip one or two times and after a lot of sharpenings the blade widt ave lost 6-7 mm.

Your knife is, what I can se, all original. Also the leather loop. That is rare. Mint condition.

The value was for some years ago around 4-500 USD. i think it is higher today - and the value will be higher in the future.

I do not know how you sall keep it as a collected knife, but I think you will get good advice here for that.

Nice knife!

Thanks for the info. Grandpa had an eye for design. Most unusual for him to have a nice knife that didn't get used hard. The leather loop doesn't look very strong, I'm sure it would wear out quickly.

I'd certainly like to take care of this knife properly. If I'm asking in the wrong place for info, any suggestions would be appreciated.
