My 50th Birthday present to myself is almost ready -- a mammoth bark ivory Sebenza 21 with raindrop damascus blade.

So, is there anything I need to do to keep the ivory in good shape? Oil, wax, none of the above?

I store some of my more valuable knives in a safe, but it doesn't have controlled humidity. Should I avoid the safe then?

Anything else I should know?

Ya at 50 years old the knife will outlast you.

USE IT and quit worrying so much!

The 'tape' CRK uses on the inlays is the same 'tape' used on aircrafts. The ivory needs no care unless you want to polish it as it is millions of years old so anything you can throw at it will not change it.

I've had a bark ivory Mnandi for about 7 years. Once and a while I use clear shoe polish. But that was a couple years ago. Now I use it as my beater at work and give it no special attension. It looks and works great!

Man that stuff is so old... you don't have to do anything except; keep it clean (which is optional), and don't smash it around because it's more fragile than robust... but it's tough enough. ;)

Id love to see a pic. Can these exotic sebenzas be washed with soap and water?
