Sorry if this is posted somewhere. I looked and didn't find anything. Being new to the nicer knives, like the ZT's, I was wondering if someone could give me some basics on taking care of them or point me to somewhere that runs through caring for them. Thanks.

I often use WD-40 to flush or clean my blades when needed. If really dirty hot soapy water followed immediately by drying and then application of WD-40 to displace the water.

I use Break-Free CLP to lubricate moving parts and coat metal surfaces to prevent corrosion.

Thanks pbcg. Is it necessary to ever take the whole thing apart and clean it?

I like to take my knives apart when I clean them. That way I can get in all the little nooks and crannies. Just don't do it if you're not handy. If you ever need help getting a knife back together definitely ask here. We'll help you out.

Sure, but for the most part I'd say no. Unless you are replacing a part or making an adjustment I don't really see the need to disassemble a knife to simply clean it. Every time that is.

But that's just me.

Best of luck

Just a quick note, if you do decide to take a knife apart that has speedsafe, make sure you open the blade before you start taking it apart. I forgot once doing that with a Blur and almost got bit.

My zt care sheet.
1. Wipe grime off blade with pant leg as needed.
2. Sharpen as needed.
3. 1 drop of clp in pivot as needed

Really depends, I put ren wax on my blades when I store them. My users I just wipe the blade off good and dry if it gets wet. My casual edc blade just gets a little pocket lint and barely ever needs cleaning. I work on a farm so my work knives gunk up much quicker. Every few months I will take my work knives apart and wipe everything clean then put it back together with a drop or two of oil on the pivot. My casual knives get taken apart and cleaned maybe once a year.

BTW, Very important, keep lube away from the locking surfaces on titanium knives like the 560/561, it can cause them to stick really bad!!!
