Got a nice custom blade with lightning strike carbon fiber scales. I never had CF before and was wondering if a light coat of polish will keep them looking good. I'm thinking this will help keep the bronze fibers from tarnishing. The knife stays at home and will not be a user, so I'm not concerned with protecting it from the elements. All my knives (except OTF) get a coat of polish on the blades and it works well. Just wondering about CF. Thanks.

It's a Herucus Blomerus LL14. Would love to show it off but I haven't tied to a hosting site yet.
You might try the site you may have bought it from ;) - not saying this is yours but this is an archived product and has the titular lightning strike CF.:

My two most used knives have carbon fiber scales and I do nothing to maintain them
Same. Soap and water maybe if the blade is dirty and I decide to clean off the whole knife.

I never treated my CF hockey sticks, so see no need to treat my CF knife scales.

CF takes a polish the same as many other materials...if you feel it doesn't have the "luster" or "shine" you want many waxes will work, though some standard jewlers red with a light buffing wheel on a dremel could do wonders (if you know what you are doing).

Curious. How easy is it to screw something up with this technique?

With a dremel, buffing compound is pretty easy to apply on a full CF scale. If bolsters are involved you want to tape them off to avoid buffing off any finish/patina/etc. otherwise its just a matter of applying an even coat, and holding the dremel and knife steady. Best if you can take the scales off first. it will leave a more glossy shine on the CF than sanding alone. Car wax can also work on CF, though it rubs off and wears faster than a proper polish.
