Hey guys. I just purchased a SOG S1 and wanted some advice on caring for the leather handle. Should it be super lightly oiled and wiped down or just keep it dry. Thanks. Mike

I mink oil mine about once a month. I keep mine wet, so to protect & keep the leather from shrinking, I put a thick coat of epoxy on it also. SOG uses a Renasance Wax.

AR,

you got a real-deal original S1 ??? AWESOME !!!! One of my favorite SOG's !!!

I occasionaly soak mine in Neatsfoot Oil. I fashion a little "tub" around the handle using aluminum foil, then drip the NO over it for several days, letting it soak in. Mine isn't used in wet environments so the handle needs only minimum care.
The slippery goes away quite quickly.

Cheers,

Carl

p.s. there's a thread on this topic from a while back, but I haven't (yet) been able to find it.

Thanks man... Yep it's authentic alright:D You will probably frown on this because I will not be using it how it was meant to be used. It is for display only: Any marks you see on the blade are reflections. The blade is pristine. This has to be one of the most gorgeous blades I have ever seen. photos just don't do it justice. It has to be seen in person to appreciate it.

AR,

so sad ... a knife like that is meant to be used.

on the other hand, to know you'll have a perfect one for years to come .... great plan !!!

did I ever mention the time I used my S1 to cut up some cantaloupes and honeydew melons and other such goodies ?? By the time I was done all the bluing on the blade was gone. So much for pristine.

Cheers,

Carl
