I just received my first khukuri (12 inch Sirupati) a couple of days ago. I will not waste anyone's time gushing about how amazing this knife is: anything that could be said about the extraordinary nature of the khukuri has already been said by more knowledgeable people than me.

My query is as follows: this is the first time I've handled a knife made in, for lack of a better expression, the old fashioned way. I must admit that I am fairly clueless about the proper way to care for knife. I have explored the FAQ's and have what, I can only assume to be, the right materials to start: Plastic scrubbing pads, a bottle of mineral oil, and lint free cloths.

I want to know the best and most effective way to care for this knife so that it will last the rest of my life. Also, instructions on how to use the two tools included with the Sirupati would be greatly appreciated.

I respectfully thank in advance any who can provide assistance on these points.

There's several "Not" things to do with your kukri.;)
One thing is to not sheath a cold kukri and bring it into a hot room.
Leave it out until it reaches room temp and then sheath it.
Always sheath it even when you are not done with it in the woods or wood lot.
An unsheathed kukri is more dangerous than a loaded gun!!!!:grumpy:

But the main thing is to always do your maintenance before you put your kukri away if it's gonna be some period of time before you have it out again.
If the maintenance is not done then that is when problems develop.:(

just love it...they just want love.

Welcome, nice choice of starting blade.

I use car wax on the blade, and udder balm on a horn handle. Wood handle owners have rituals they go through, I think. Lotta incense, chanting, and then they get nekkid...I think..not sure.:)
