Hi,

One of my most prized possessions is my original 1967 Camillus Cub Scout knife that was reconditioned by Wallace Rockwell of Rock USA Cutlery before they closed up shop for their well-deserved retirement about 5 years ago. They restored the blade to a beautiful mirror finish and I'm wondering where to go from here. The blade was significantly corroded before they fixed it so I assume it was made of carbon steel like the Opinels but does anyone know what kind of steel these knives are made from and what would be the best way to prevent future rust/ corrosion? Pretty clear that forcing a patina by soaking in vinegar for a little while would negate the beautiful mirror finish.

Any info on what the steel is and how to care for it would be greatly appreciated.

Mineral oil..eg 3 in1/ sewing machine oil...you only need a slight smear...and wipe clean...no need to drown it... I wouldnt use lip balm wax..it probably has sugary flavourings in it.
Cheers
