Hello all. I love going to antique shops and shows and used to pick up a lot of antiques. But, I eventually realized I really didn't want to decorate with antiques, so I got rid of them and stopped going to antique shops. But I really missed it.
Got back into woodcarving and rekindled my love of knives. I realized that collecting older knives would be a fun way of continuing my love of antique shopping without filling the entire house with antiques. (as long as I keep it under control).
I picked up my first knife for my collection at this weekend - a French fish/scaling possibly from the 1920s or 30s. I did start a thread about it in the Levine knife collecting forum area here, to try to learn more about the blade but I am curious how to care for antique knives. So I wanted to ask for help here in the maintenance forum.
Here is my recent acquisition:

As you can see, there is quite a patina on the knife, a little rust on the blade and rivets and the wood handle is well worn.
Not concerned about sharpening it as I won't be cutting with it and I am not trying to make the knife look new or highly polished. I like the worn look of it that tells the story of long use but I am worried about preventing further rust and deterioration on the wood handles.
I do have some Japanese sword oil I used to use on another knife. I do have Autosol metal polish and a buffing wheel but that would likely give it a bright finish I am not really looking for.
More pictures so you can see the state of it. I have used Terra Nova NaturOil on many of my wood carvings which I like and which could help protect the wood. Thanks for your input on how to care for antique knives.
