What is the preferred way to care for a Bamboo root handle.

Depending on the wood I might use Tung oil or even Caranuba wax.

Anybody?

This is just me, but I put all my handles, wood, horn etc in mineral oil when I get them and every once in a while. I will let them soak for a day or so, it seems to rehydrate them nicely. After that you could use a wax if you like. Bamboo is pretty strong and very porous so it couldn’t hurt, if you choose to do that.

Thank you gentleman!
Like you, I hope these will move through time as well preserved and cherished heirlooms!

Has anybody tried boiled linseed!

Or will that clog the pores?

Boiled shouldn't clog really. It has no drying agents in it. It's thicker so it will act like a sealer and not soak in like mineral oil or similar but it shouldn't be impervious to rehydration. At least thats my non expert take on the matter.

I soak the crap out of any wood with mineral oil and nothing more if I plan to eat it. If you aint going to eat it then after mineral oil soak you can use BLO, danish oil, Polyurethane, or whatever but the main thing is not "seal" it until you saturate it somewhat. If you decide to "seal" (see Bawannas comment) it it may be ok too but not knowing how dry the wood is since you dont know how long its been sitting around then id refrain from sealing until it is hydrated with the min oil. Note: Dont eat the Rhododendron! It has some really weird side effects! Errrrrgh....
