Trying to obtain information of the proper care of damascus.

Are there special lubricants, coatings, waxes, etc. that need to be applied to damascus blades, bolsters, etc. to assist in its care????

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff,
You can't go wrong with Rennaissance Wax.

Rennaisance wax works excellent, butchers paste wax that is used on bowling alleys and also white lightning both work great
for cleaning your blades use a product called Ballistoil

I have learned fro Gun dealers that a coat of Rig Gun Grease works great at resisting finger prints and spittle when showing your knives...I tried it and it works great on the whole knife, just put a thin coat on and put it up no rust,I have a knife here that has been to shows and on the shelf for over a year and it hasnt rusted yet.....Just my findings and opinion,Bruce

Dave Ellis ABS, Mastersmith here. I have not had great luck with Ren wax on my damascus, I use breakfree (sporting goods or gun shops). I have damascus blades over 10 years old that are perfect, a bit messy but have tried them all. Feel free to contact me.
