Care of old Randall leather stacked handles

There used to be a Randall category on this site, but I could not find it.
My apology for using a general forum for this question.

I've got a couple of older Randalls (a Model 1-7 and a Model 2-5) with stacked leather handles. These are from the Johnson Rough Back sheath era.

Several of the leather disks have shrunk slightly and are producing a white salt like substance. Treatment with polish and mink oil cleaned up the appearance, but the white powder started reappearing in a matter of days.

Does anyone have any experience dealing with this problem?

Thanks

the white powder is probably the mink oil drying and leaving the leftover wax. Mink oil is not good for leather handles because it softens the leather. you don't want softer leather so you should just stick with neutral shoe polish.
