Hello everyone,
I probably have internal career crisis...

Started with making "tactical knives" but, after 1,5 year I don't know if it is that what I want to do...

Now my eyes and thoughts going into slipjoints, kitchen knives, and knives more practical than "tactical".
Also tired of working only in G10... I was also planning to get MAZAK VCP 400S VMC with leasing in next year but...

Where is this fun of cutting metal and hand work?
I think that only CNC what will be done in my knives will be Water-Jet cutting.
Rest hand work.

And I'm not interested so much anymore in BIG knives, mostly for me is better to work in small knives like my Garmr, Tengu, Sphinx, and maybe some more classic knives ?

Did anybody have that crisis inside his mind before ?

I Sure Have!,
Change is good! I started making Hunter/Camp Fighter knives and after a few years move to 95% plus Culinary.

I hated working with G-10 & Micarta, :) Besides that stuff grinds into little fish hooks and if it gets into your lungs the only way to get it out is by autopsy.:o Be careful with that stuff! I haven't ground it or Micarta in about 10 years and feel better for it.

I only use Stabilized/Dyed renewable woods like Maple, Ash, Koa and Kirinite and wear a respirator, Ear plugs and eye protection along with a leather Apron that hangs pass my knees to protect the family Jewels and arteries in my legs from flying sharp pointy knife shaped projectiles.:)

i think you are ok. its normal to switch gears and do different stuff. i used to make small hunting knives, but now i enjoy making larger ones instead:)

Variety is the spice of life! That's what I love about knife making. There are so many different styles and patterns to try out.

We all find our niche. I started making kitchen knives, and now im about to by a dealers membership to sell wood! I think as long as you enjoy the work and always keep the quality high, I dont think what you're making matters.

And yes, i do realize the drug reference i made.

Yeah, I started by making mini forges, but lately I've been most excited by building prototypes of bigger forges. I'm also 6 months from shutting down my computer repair business to try and do forges full time.

From latest ideas of my Gov ( Poland)...
If new ideas about Social insurance will be put in work...
I totally will want emigrate to USA...

They want to calc Social insurance monthlky pay from Total Income not from profit...
If we take my actual total income 6.600 PLN then I would need to pay about 2.900PLN to Social Insurance Office ( ZUS) Add 19% Income tax ...
Where money for materials, bills , food ?

Kosa,

You are not alone my friend!! When I first started collecting I loved it all. Fixed blades,Slippies, and everything in between. One day I woke up and said to myself that this was unreasonable, if fact very stressful even to follow all of this. I did some introspection and asked myself what interests me the most. For me it was the history of the older pocket knives prior to when folks were even collecting ~1965 ish was when collecting started becoming popoular. So I sold everything I had and was comfortable in some pretty significant losses just to get on Track.... From then on in it was the older the better. I narrowed it down to Pocket knives, and one better pocket knives made in the USA. Today I have my display of "America's Finest Vintage Knives" of around 125 pieces that are truly rewarding for me. I laso collect some fixed blades and folders, however that is just for fun. No worries, your not alone, Narrow it down and guaranteed your interest and funnest will reach another level.

I've only used g10 and micarta and used to think wood and naturals were only for "old school" knives. Since I've been on this forum my views have completely changed. Now every time i see a handle made of buckeye burl or koa or ironwood I'm drooling.

In next month probably I will order 15 liters of JATAPOL WR 90 wood stabilizing resing ( same as Cactus Juice) + 10x 300x1000mm 3mm AEB-L + 2-stage vacuum pump :)
Result: Stabilized wood and kitchen knives ;)

Sounds like you need to liven things up by making a bigass sword, Kosa_PL! :D:thumbup:

A zloty here and a zloty there and that crap starts to add up!!!!!:D When my dad had some business partners in Hungary a number of years back after the Curtain came down, they told him that the cost of the social insurance and other benefits was was a big problem there. They said for lower salary employees, the cost for that stuff was almost as much as what they paid the employee. Of course, you must remember that you would be paying 15% in Federal "social insurance" in addition to income tax over here in the US, but that is only paid on your "salary' Any "profits" for you Sub S Corporation business are taxed at personal income tax rates with all of the personal deductions and business depreciation as long as you don't get too cute and say something your salary is $5 and your profits are $5000 a month.
