I have an opportunity to buy a Cargill knife date of 9/79 stag handle small boot knife with a 4 inch blade total length is 8 inches. Asking price of $750. Sound like a good deal ??

Hi Viking,

That is about $400 too much.

Bob was better known as a folder maker....especially his "Barrel" knives.

He did not leave the custom knife world under the best of circumstances.

Les, do you mind expanding on your last sentence, either here or in PM whichever you feel would be best?

Thank You,
James

I know he makes folders. I was of the impression he was a fine and respected knife maker. Still active even. Am I wrong?

Hi Viking,

Bob built an excellent knife. I believe he has passed away. If not...sorry Bob.

If you feel the knife is worth the money then you should buy it.

Bob made some fine folders of which I have a couple of fine specimens and I for one respect him as a maker, he was not afraid to be innovative and try new things. Never handled one of his fixed blades nor have any idea of their worth. Les does know his values though. I would go with that figure if it were me.

Les, I thought same thing, but was told recently that he is actually still alive and kicking. Was told he was still making a few knives. Do not know first hand, but trust the source.

My understanding was that he had to stop making knives due to repetetive motion injuries he sustained mostly from making those Knife World limited editions of 500 - 1500 pieces. I believe he made all those knives by himself.

He had or has a website where he tells the story. I'll post it if I can find it. I'm pretty sure he's still alive.

I love his slipjoints.

Edited: Here is the link to a website where Bob tells his story in his own words. It appears to loaded with pop ups and spyware though. http://members.fortunecity.com/signutz/knifemanorg/id2.htm

Perhaps I can get the price lowered. It is a beauty. looks to be in pristine condition for a knife that is about thirty years old.

Hi Longbeach,

I heard that was a problem as well. His Cripple Creek knives were very well made.

Glad to hear he is still around.
