Well, the search for a lightweight breathable shell continues. I gave up on the REI Ultra Light because it made me sweat when I wore it around the store- you can't wear short sleeves with it.

Most of the other stuff they had was more than I wanted to spend, or way too flimsy- I'm looking for something as an everyday, grab-and-go jacket. I found this one yesterday at Bass Pro http://www.carhartt.com/webapp/wcs/...1&productId=100460&langId=-1&categoryId=10928

and wore it around the store for awhile- it worked fine as far as breathability and feels sturdier than the REI. Not near as nice in the features department, no pit zips and the inside pockets are pretty lame, but it seems like it will do the job.

So anyone have any experience with these? Not Carhartt in general- I already know what a good name they have. Recommendations for other jackets in this class and price range are welcome- loved that TAD Gear review- until I saw the sale price!

BTW- Rip off alert- the Bass Pro I was at had this jacket for $139- MSRP is only $130! I was pretty surprised at that. Available online around $109 with free shipping.

Oftentimes SteepandCheap will have insane deals on great jackets. Otherwise, just check backcountry.com and wait for their rain-jacket sales. They usually have a few on sale each week. Stoic, Outdoor Research, Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx, Norrona, Rab, Westcomb, etc are all good.

You also might want to check out the Condor Softshell (Only $80) (TadGear Stealth Hoodie Copy, touted as a great jacket for the price, Nutnfancy has a review of it on Youtube)

Stay away from The North Face, Columbia, Sierra Designs and the like.
