Many Scandinavian knives call for Reindeer Antler as handle material. Someone told me that Caribou and Reindeer are the same animal. Is this true? Does Caribou make a good strong handle material?
Thanks

That's correct, Caribou=Reindeer. _Rangifer tarandus_

-Corduroy
(Why else would a bear want a pocket?)

Sutcliff: They are of the same family or species but are not the same animal. I have used a lot of caribou antler for handles and have found them to be very good handle material. The only thing you have to be carefull of, is they are more porous than stag. Now I dont really know about the reindeer antler. I do know that the caribou will look exactly like oosic. I have had a lot of people think it was oosic until I told them differently. I get my caribou from alaska.

I stand corrected. Caribou and reindeer are the same. I didnt know that. I always thought they were two different animals. Learn something new everyday.
