I have a knife with mammoth ivory handles coming in the next couple of days. What's the best way to care for mammoth ivory? With stag, or elephant ivory I would just wipe it down with mineral oil occassionally, but I don't have the slightest idea on what to do with mammoth.

I bought a Amherst knife a while back with mammoth ivory. I was told it was stabilized with an epoxy resin.

Paste wax.
Ivory and stag don't have mineral oil in them naturally, and there is no need to introduce it. Ivory won't absorb it, though porous mammoth may. Stag will absorb oil, and it softens and discolors it.

Is there a specific brand of paste wax you recommend because I've wondered the same thing.

Neutral paste shoe polish works as well as anything else.
Renaissance wax is meant for items that won't be handled. It wears off quickly.
