Caring for stripped blades....

Now that I stripped my necker, and will soon have the stripped BK9, I'm curious about what you guys do to maintain your bare blades? Also, how touchy is 1095 and how quickly will it rust if left to its own. Any tips?

Just treat it like you would any fine gun, tool, or anything you don't want to rust. Wipe it down when it gets wet, don't store it in leather and use any number of good rust preventatives. Everybody has their favorite. I use Rem-Oil because I've got a bunch of it. Mineral oil if I'm going to use it for food. It's carbon steel so it will rust if you neglect it, but it's not a rust magnet. The more you get it out and let it play the fewer worries you'll have.

I just keep mine dry. No need for a coating of oil or anything like that. I don't want to have to scrub something like that off just so I can peel an apple.

Remoil! That's it! I've been thinking for 2 weeks there was something I wanted to go buy, and I couldn't remember. I had some and now I can't find it. Thanks for jogging my memory!

I like Ballistol for mine, and almost all my BKT knives are stripped. A light a wipe down and a light coat, is making it turn blacker by the day, eventually, it will look like I didn't strip it at all.

Ballistol is non toxic, and has been used to treat minor wounds in some cases. Great stuff to. Plus, I love the smell.

I like what Ethan suggested the other day with Mineral Oil.

Been using ever since. I do use my BK2 occasionally for food prep and makes it easier knowing I'm not going to potentially put 3in1 oil on my meat...

plus its cheap

it's funny, sll ypu strippers...

the khukri guys are pretty hard core, hard use... all blades usually come naked (some with forge scale)... those guys? hard and cold bueing. paint, coatings :)

the #1 thing with those guys is mineral oil. apparently the primary ingredient in ballistol (someone did a chemical breakdown on that a while ago), or renne wax? rem oil is toxic. good for axes, and tools, and such i won't touch with food later.

Where do you find the stuff? I've been wanting to pick some up but freight charges seem to turn me away every time.

Thanks.
