Someone said on the forum that the carnivor was junk.I am the one who had the carnivor. The reason I got mad was because the dealer said their was nothing wrong with the carnivor.I said is it suppose to take two hands to unlock it.He said they are all rough when new.REKAT said to send the knife back and they would fix it.I think this show and outstanding company. Also, Ptpalpha don't hold back on your replys,it could cause you headaches.

I don't know about the Carnivor, but if it's made like the Sifu I got, then I it's definitely a big disappointment. Currently, the knife is back at REKAT. I want to give them a chance to prove that it was simply an oversight, mistake, QC problem. When I get it back I'll tell you what I think.

I feel pretty fortunate that I have one made
by Rob Simonich, with desert Ironwood scales.
Opens with a flick of the wrist, when I hold
back the lock release, and I can flick it closed as well. Very smooth but I believe that
Rob does some extra polishing on the internal
parts on the ones he does, extra time spent
seems well worth it!
I don't know if he has any of the 33 that he
was making available for orders, but I'd
recomend ordering one of his, with the Talonite blade material!

Cost a little more, but the value is very high in my book, here is a peek at mine:

Nicely done!
Notice that Rob has smoothed out some of the contours that are on the original Carnivore, handles are very comfortable.

Razor, LOL, don't worry, I won't! Here's my thoughts on the Carny. It locks up very solid, the Rolling Lock is arguably the best in the business, the grip configuration is really awesome, and the materials used are top notch. Personally, I like to "tweak" my knives, and bought the Carny with every intention of stripping it down and modifying it. I dremeled the G10 and liners to fit more comfortably in my hand, fileworked the liners all the way around, polished the pivot area of the blade and liners to 1200 grit, and cut some serrations in the G10 for better finger purchase in both saber and reverse grip. Was it gritty when I got it? Yes, it was. I knew it would be because I read all the reviews on it here at BF, and did exhaustive searches for any info on it. Was it sharp? Heck yeah, it was really sharp! Zero blade play upon arrival, however some did begin after I'd taken it apart a few time. Can't blame that on REKAT, though. Bottom line is this: if you enjoy modifying your knives, the Carny is the Chevy 350 of the knife world. Buy one and get busy! If you want it to be perfect when you get it, wait a little until REKAT resolves the grittiness issue, which they will. But IMHO there is no better production tactical-type folder on the market in the price range of the Carnivore. And EVERY company has QC problems from time to time. Yes, Spyderco is awesome, and their QC problems are VERY few, but they've got 'em. It's the nature of the beast when you have humans, not machines, working for you. Hope this helps.

Yep!
Ounce for ounce, the strongest locking, toughest, most ergonomic, butt ugly brute of a folder on the market!
Although, Gary W. Graley's Carny is downright BEEYOOTEEFULLL! Man! I saw that knife and it nearly brought a tear to my eye.
Gary, you are one LUCKY rascal!
That is one awe inspiring folder!

Misque, you got that right! That is the best looking folder I've seen in a long time!

Thanks guys, especially thanks to Tom Walz who sponsored the contest that allowed me to win that beauty! (yep win!) He owns the Carbide Processor place that manufactures the material they named Talonite, a name given to the material taken from, I believe their Finance ladies son Talon.

And of course to our very own Rob Simonich for his creative style and flare.

I've been carrying this knife for a couple weeks now and it's kept it's edge very well, cutting mostly cardboard and some plastic straps and paper. The flat grind is nicely done the edge is thicker than I normally like on my folders, but Rob says that's the way the Talonite material needs to be ground, and hey, I trust him! The blade does push cut through leather very good, almost as good as my Sebenza, the Sebenzas have a slight edge being the profile is thinner than this Carnivore, but the handle is very comfortable and ease of opening and closing is a nice touch as well. Haven't held one of the production models, guess I probably never will? But I've heard tell there is a break-in period before they open smoothly?

Yep, I'm a lucky cuss, I don't normally win much of anything and this really surprised me!

ptpalpha i appreciate your views about the carnivore.would u be interested in buying mine when it comes back,i dont have alot of time to modify my knives, sounds like this knife of mine is made just for you.$100.00 shipped to you.

I talked to Bob Taylor today about this thread, and I have to agree with him -

99% of the warranty issues that REKAT encounters occur when the end user has taken apart the knife and either modified it, or put it back together wrong.

Unfortunately, some people have a tendency to blame REKAT when their modifications wind up making the knife sloppy. Bob leaves "telltales" when he assembles his knives, and can tell when a knife has been taken apart, even when there aren't obvious signs like the spring being cut into pieces, or shortened, the locking surfaces buffed, the rolling lock slide bar being put in backwards, etc.

While I can understand the great want to "make things better than they already are", and to tell you the truth, I'm a victim of it myself. I love to modify things. But I don't try to improve upon things when it might mess up the workings. If I do, I take responsibility when it is screwed up.

If there is a problem with your REKAT knife, don't try to fix it yourself. Send it back to REKAT, and they will fix it for you without a problem.

Very well stated, Spark. I couldn't agree more. I get the feeling that Bob is a little tired of folks taking apart REKAT's then complaining that things don't work right when they put it back together. I don't blame him. Razor-nice try!

I just had to turn down a COOL green handled Carny last night from another BF member; as much as I want it (and believe me, I do!) I'm REALLY overextended right now from flagrantly irresponsible knife purchases.

To back up my vocal support of the Carnivore, though, be advised that I told him that if it was still available when I get these customs paid off, it's the first purchase I'll make. If I were you, I'd wait until the knife returns from REKAT and then see what you think. I'll bet you'll like it! If not, shoot me an email. If the green handled one has sold (and it probably will) I'll take it off your hands. (IF it is the stonewash finish-I've got the black and don't need two identical knives).

maybe u can help me this knife was sold to me as a green handled that is why i bought it,because of it's rarity, but to me it didnt look green,is this a dark almost black color of green i really couldnt tell the difference. thanks razor
my offer still stands if i get it back and dont like it.

Razor, hmmm. Interesting question. The green ones I've seen are definately green, no doubt about it. Can you scan it and email me a pic? And Razor, my offer still stands too. If you get it back and don't like it, email me. If the other green Carny has been sold, I'll buy yours. We're still unclear as to green vs. black scales, but is it a stonewashed blade or black-T?

Razor,

Check your E-mail for a pic of what a Green handled Carnivore should look like.

Also, if you have any "Carny" or Rekat questions, feel free to ask, I have had lot's of them and taken apart just about all of them and have never had any problems.
