Just got mine and will make some kindling tonight.
Yeah, its rough but it's not a sissy's knife either.
If my Genesis is a "Sports Utility Knife", then this is "4X4".
I've always been fond of the old style Pioneers, but this is bliss.
It says "Make My Day", "Use Me", "No Problemo", and will be used without concern.
Just a great cutting tool.
The knife melts in the hand. The G-10 is textured so that it "sticks", and the action reminds me of an 870 Remington. "Field Duty" all the way ! Never had a problem with the Pioneer rusting, and it has spent many nights wet and dirty.
Bye clip

Bill,

I really like the new Carnivour, also. It is a great value and a good knife. Built like a tank-like all of the REKATs that I own.

One thing that I didn't like was the gritty opening until I poured in quite a bit of Tuff Glide and cycled it a couple of hundred times. Did you experience this problem?

Also, does yours have a clip?

Daniel,
Yes, mine was gritty as all REKATS I've received.
I do the same thing you do...oil it and cycle it.
Also, I take Mother's Aluminum Wheel Polish (an auto product) to the blade.
It cleans a lot of black stuff off, and it polishes it nicely while leaving the stonewash intact.
These are BIG folders, yet the weight does not bother me.
Best of all, I got mine for $106 delivered

Just coincidentally, I just got my Crawford Carnivour Custom and the REKAT Carnivour today, from the same UPS truck. Talk about stars aligning...

This newer REKAT is impproved over the (misfortunate) original one I handled months ago from Kansas Tactical and reported on. The blade has a nice recurve and an interesting grind on the top that the previous one did not have. The RL is solid and, yes, has that "gritty" feel but not as much as the Pioneer I got. I LOVE the grip on this knife. The textured G10 adds on so much more to a nonslip grip. This knife is darn close to the Crawford custom, at less than half the price!

Now, the custom Crawford. The finish, as expected, is a bit better than the REKAT. The blue micarta is a darker more subdue blue (compared to the BF Native), and it is smooth. But grippiness is not a problem because the handle design provides an amply secure grip. The finish of the blade is satin and I suspect the reason why the RL lacks the "gritty" feeling of the REKAT. Also, when the top and bottom grinds meet on the blade, the REKAT is more or less straight whereas the Crawford has pleasing upcurve (for me) similar but less pronounced than the KFF. The Crawford blade seems to have an ever so slightly thicker blade. It also seems that Crawford is using a titanium liner whereas the REKAT a steel liner. The Crawford is lighter, just noticably so.

One problem with the Crawford, I ordered tip down and got a tip up. That's okay because I can compare the clips. The REKAT clip, in my opinion, is bettered design. The REKAT clip is held by one screw and bent piece over it that inserts into a small hole. The custom clip is a "Y" shape with the "V" part bent upside down, like "/\" and screwed in on each end. The clip tip also lacks enough upward bend that I think it is going to catch and wear pocket seams quicker. I have send the custom back and have requested the grey clip that is used with the KFF.

I love Crawford and like/love the REKAT. The latter is a darn good buy at less than 1/2 the price of the Crawford custom.

Here's the sad part. The Crawford is going back tomorrow for tip down clip, and the REKAT is going to a friend tonight.

My Canivours must be star crossed.

My Carnivour was gritty at first too. I did the same thing as Daniel did to his and now it opens smoothly with little effort. Try loosening the pivot screw a bit, as this seems to help it along a bit.

Hey guys, I got a carnavour but returned it. I think it is a bit too heavy for me. Yes, it was gritty too and that didn't help. The handle had a great grip but all in all for a city slicker like me it is just too heavy.

Mine was gritty too, at first. A liberal application of Tuf Glide in the pivot area and approx. 100 opening cycles later and it is very smooth. Not as slick as my Genesis but definitely acceptable and it has only been opened a couple hundred times at the most. Hopefully the knife will continue to improve. The pivot was left at factory tightness.
