Per JGardnerA's request, here is a preview I did for another forum last week:

Here are a couple of pictures of the rough Prototypes for the new Carrara line. The new "Moderate Price Point" line soon to be imported by EKI.

These are going to be made in Seki City Japan, will be available in two sizes, two blade styles (Drop point or Tanto), serrated or un serrated and the clips are reversible. The body is made of a hard polymer.

Again, these are rough prototypes. Several things have already been slated for change. The clip will be higher on the body and the thumb hole will be inverted 180 degrees from what is shown.

Projected Retail will be $69 for the smaller one and $79 for the larger.

Looks neat, nice ramp at the top so there is hope of a wave!
I wonder where the target price will be.

Some reason the tanto just doesent do it for me with the hole in the blade. I think it takes away from its looks. But the non tanto version will have to make its way to me.
What do you guys think about that "half moon" hole? Cant wait to handle one of them to try it out.

I hope that the production versions will keeps that finish. I have allways love the parkarized look, and wish that they would make it in to the regular EKI lineup.

I dont know whats wrong with me, I think that pocket clip looks neat. Could just be the photo, but it looks rather "chunky" but for some reason I like the look.

John do you know if the production version will inclue a wave? Also what type of plastic is the handle, same as the EKI plastic handle versions?

They look pretty nice, I was suprised to see that they are lockbacks. The drop point looks really cool. Do you know the blade length, steel, etc.?

i wish the half-moon hole could be added to the current production models instead of the disc :)

The halfmoon opening works great. No problems at all.

The Polymer is hard. Not exactly sure what it is, but it is not the same as used in other EKI products.

I prefered the Spearpoints as well.

I like the prototypes! I hope an additional modification would be to cut a notch into the lockback that follows the contour of the handle. This is to prevent meaty hands from accidently loosening the lock.

Cheers,
Damon

I like the overall designs but pitch the half moon hole. I think that it makes the knives look too much like the Camp USA series in SMKW :barf: :barf: :barf: However, I am very exicited to see an Emerson lock back!

I like the idea of Emersons that are in the ballpark price range of the Griptillians, ascents, spidies, and others like that. This way it'll help turn others onto this great maker. This just showes EKI cares about the entire market. Interested in seeing the evolution of this new design. Any hopes of opening holes on other Emerson models?

I hate to be the one to say it, but those knives are BUTT UGLY.

Not CQC-7 ugly, but ugly like the usual suspects hungover after a hard night of partying with the goat.

Vampire Gerbial looks better than those.

I may buy one, but it better have a wave and a black clip and a black blade.

wheew--
i thought i was the only one who noticed it.!! looks like the end result of a romantic interlude between a drunken Specwar, and some kinda Spydieco thingie. yuck:barf: :barf: where's my Commander??? aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

:D :D

Okay, so they're not the PURTIEST knives on earth, but they look quite functional, and that's what counts, along with the more affordable price for us below average paycheck people.

Notice the extra screw provided on the off side clip holes, which is a dam good idea should you lose one--hope this idea makes production. (Sure would be easier on all sides than waiting for an extra screw from the factory, and a great touch from Emerson which is also very easily accomplished.)

I can only hope for WAVED VERSIONS! A Boye dent might be nice, too, for those of us who may hold it in hammer grip and press on the lock bar due to hand configuration, etc.

If it comes WAVED, this may become my second Emerson folder!:D (My first Emerson was the La Griffe.)

As for the opening hole, I am partial to Spydie round ones and the Griptilian oval opening. However, inverting this half-moon shape may be acceptable (to me, at least). I don't want any unfair comparisons with Camp USA folders, either! (And I even have the little Scamp keychain knife from them which wasn't a bad deal for five bucks...)
