"I am introducing a new knife company this year, Carrera Sports Utility Knives, Inc. This is a secret project that I have been working on for over a year now. If you have wanted affordable Emerson designs, now you have the chance. The first models, Phase One, will be introduced at the SHOT Show in February. These are new, exciting and affordable Emerson designs"

-From Ernest Emerson's Christmas post...
Does anyone have a clue about what these blades will be like? Facts, rumors, and random speculation is welcome :)

if i was to have a totally unimformed guess.... based only one the "phase one " wording.........mabey a version of the CF phaser, possibly with a one piece moulded handle like the PUK to keep costs down.
lets hope anyway!
while on the subject ,does anyone know of any significance to the "CARRERA" name?personally i would have preferred to keep the emerson name on these knives somehow(only just starting to educate aussies on the emerson name -now i will have to start again-lol),or mabey even resurrect the "VIPER" name somehow?
not that i think it will change what is probably well underway....but what do you suspects think?????
bel

btw. Derek any dealers lined up for OZ yet?? pls email me. thanks

My guess is...well, think CRKT Emersons. Zytel handles, 420J2 liners, AUS-6/8 blades....just my thoughts. That would drop the price a lot. Aarrgghh....waiting sucks!

I was hoping he had meant going the -other- direction...

i.e. "affordable Emerson _DESIGNS_" as in production versions of the customs.

I feel that the regular EKI production knife series was affordable enough, at least compared to the CQC6/Viper/fixed blades...

Now, if he somehow managed to put out a line of $300 MSRP ($150-200 at the store) production knives that emulated the custom line (but only slightly) --

Well, now.

I'm not sure the world needs another series of AUS6 bladed, Zytel-handled knives, even if they do look cool. I recently replaced my CRKT M16-02z with a Mini-CQC7b, and the 154CM & G10 is a huge improvement.

Then again... that's my opinion.

I've replaced my CRKT Kasper with a Commander. :D Many who bought and liked CRKT Kaspers and Point Guards went on to buy the Crawford custom versions as well. Maybe this is what Ernie has in mind.

True dat, true dat. Could be either one, production models of his customs would be MUCH better.

Eric, just a suggestion, but could you add a "carrera sports utility knives" forum within the USN Forums cause i think after the SHOT show, they will be talked about quite abit.........just an idea, what do you think??

I'd love to see a production CQC-9, no knife like THAT on the market now. That would raise some eyebrows...
I just hope the carrera knives are made with good materials. Syderco seems to makes some very high quality peices in the under 75 range. Zytel may be a neccessary evil depending on what price point they're going for, but spyderco is putting VG-10, ATS-34, 440V, and other good steels in it's sub-75 blades.
