Ok Guys,

Whos got them? Who uses them? Tell me about them. Compare them the the XM-18,AD-10 and anything else in that category. I'm going to pull the trigger really soon and I'm looking for input.

Thanks. And Pictures arent require but much appreciated?

The original tripwire was pretty clunky. You couldn't cut much with it because the grind angle was so wide.

From the pictures it looks like he improved the blade profile and lost the not-a-choil/finger slicer. it's probably still clunky, but not as useless. My hands are also on the small side, so the handle design doesn't do much for me. If you have larger hands it would probably work well.

But it certainly is built like a tank.

how was the action on it? smooth? lockbar?

The action was nice and smooth, but the blade was very heavy, so it was a fine line between too loose and too tight. Sometimes it seemed to have a mind of it's own. And the framelock was supersolid, that blade wasn't going anywhere.

is it possible to carry in a pocket or just too big? I'm a firefighter so we wear looser pants and it will probably often get grabbed with a gloved hand.

borderline too big for normal fit jeans. Not too big for wide leg jeans. It would probably work great for firefighter gear, especially with the thumbstud being all overbuilt for gloved use.

Since it's heavy, cargo pants pocket carry is not recommended.

Folding shovel unless he drastically changed the edge angle. It seems to me that he designed the knife primarily around robustness and only secondarily as an actual cutting instrument. As such I find no use for it. For a knife at that price point I'd expect it to cut. Yea, you can reprofile it, but stuff like that just turns me off when spending that much money on a knife. It just screams to me and says, "HEY! I can make this super awesome indestructible folding piece of kit except I suck at sharpening it! But you can still use it to pry stuff with! Yea!"

I dunno about you, but if I buy a knife I expect it to cut at least decently. I'd rather have a Hinderer or Demko. I only say this after having handled all three of them at one point. I also dare say that a Demko has a stronger lock and probably weighs less. Also, I don't like the use of an allen head screw as a thumbstud. For that much money, he can't even use a thumbstud?

EDIT: My last gripe with the knife is the giant pocket clip. Could he have made it any bigger?! Pocket clips are a necessary evil if you want to clip them somewhere, but that pocket clip is ridiculous.
EDIT 2: I see he has different clips now, but I'm still leaving my above comment up for posterity.

Just dug up my old tripwire review, which was basically "the clip is too big" and "it won't cut anything". I guess things haven't changed much. when the first model came out it's competition was extrema ratio and dork ops. they were all folding shovels.

There's a few knives I have had my eye on for a while now and the pictured knife you have is one of them. funny , I love the fat , robust pocket clip and the allen head as a thumbstud , I have an older Kershaw and older CRKT S2 that have thumbstuds like those and I think they look and work great.
I have not held one though and I would agree if the edge is too obtuse to cut then one either needs to have it reground or do a lot of metal removal on your own. I have had to do the latter to two nice Benchmades -Siebert & LfTi- to make them even begin to slice better , it is pretty unnerving to have such nice knives completely and totally outclassed by a $30 Skyline which will cut and slice better right out of the box than any of the aforementioned.

Still it's a really cool looking knife , one sure to impress the buddies at the BBQ , even if it doesnt cut well :D

None of what I wrote above was meant to deter the OP from buying the knife. If the OP or anyone else like the knife, by all means, buy it if you can. That's the beauty about knives; there is something for everyone. The Tripwire is just not for me, and I stated my opinions why.

If it doesn't cut well, you can always use it as a spatula to flip the meat. Then you can use it to scrape the burnt barbecue off the grill.

I have a original Double Ti TripWire 7 that I edc in my back pocket with no problem and cuts just fine I love it!!!!!!And the unique feeling of edc and useing this rare knife with no worries makes me happy:) camo finish on my Carrillo is sweeet sauce.DC is also one of the coolest guys to deal with+if you dont like it when you get it I doublt you will have a problem saleing it .

Great knife. Big and beefy; for a man with big hands, it's a big chunk of titanium, stainless and G10 to hold on to. Made in the USA.
