Hi folks, just received my first Carrillo knife today, I'm a little late to the game and missed out a good number of Carrillo's previous offerings...
However better late than never so I picked up the Tripwire model 6.

The knife came with a Pelican micro case, the foam inserts cushion the knife snugly and is perfect for transportation.
The knife itself is just wow...
Dwaine Carrillo makes knives with distinguishing style and they're as beautiful as they're tough.

This beast of a knife opens up to be more than 9 1/2" and 6" when folded.
The blade is a beefy chunk of satin CPM154 sandwiched between a monster slab of titanium and G-10.

Carrillo put a lot of thoughts into the design, I was most amazed by the built-in lock bar stopper. I don't know if this is his original design but it's nothing less than ingenious and only made possible by using such thick piece of ti frame.
The knife is engineered with exacting precision, the blade is perfectly centered, the lock up is super solid and it opens with ease with dual thumb studs.

Overall it is just wow, when holding it in your hand you just know this thing is rock solid and can take a good beating. Essentially it feels like a Strider custom SMF on steroid, a lot of steroid.

This is my first Carrillo but certainly will not be my last.

And this is the built-in lock bar stopper, a cylindrical stud that will press against the cut-out on the frame to prevent over-extension.

Everywhere you look there are high precision components made of solid materials.

I have not take it outdoor for field test yet but there's almost no doubt this Tripwire II is going to ace it, just an excellent knive.

I like that knife, thanks for the initial review and let us know how you like it over time. No doubt its a beefy folder.

Nice catch.

Over the years I have had my finger on the trigger to pick up a Carillo - I like the uber-industrial look of his knives.

I just always had a problem with the prices.

What does one of those run for? I'm liking it, but I think i'd want it minus the recurve. Him and Yuna now are on my list.

His knives are made with precision, for the price you're guranteed to get a perfect knife everytime.

But is it over-priced? Yes.

Will I go back for more? Hell yes.

Depends on different models and sizes but they usually run for about 1K plus or minus $200.

Most of his blades are either recurved or tanto so you probably want to google him and see if you like his other sutff.

Instead of buying 4 or 5 not-so-satisfying pieces from other companies I'd rather save up for a Carrillo.

And yes I like Yuna's knives, but the yin-yan pivot really puts me off, not something I'd expect to see on a tactival type knife...

Right on!I own a I guess you can say old school TripWire #7(Double Ti,Shredded Steel)I love it BigTime:thumbup:

Glad you like the knife.

However, for a piece that costs as much as the Tripwire, I see some machining issues in this pic.

He paid $125.

Can I see some comparison shots with some popular production folders? Everyone is saying how huge this is. I gotta know--like 0200 huge, or like, HI Khukuri huge.

:eek::eek::eek: Talk about INDUSTRIAL-STRENGTH!!! That knife is the epitome of a tank!!

Congrats....nice score!!

125$????? you sure???? not 1250$ that carrillo sales for 750$ easyyyyy

Sorry, I confused this Tripwire that arrived today with the Tripwire that arrived today in the general forum. The other Tripwire owner paid $125. I don't know how much this one paid.

They usually go for about $700.

Whoever gets a Tripwire, or any Carrillo, for $125 got a friggin' STEAL...

Sorry I don't have any popular folder to make a good comparison shots, mostly because I'm a fixed blade guy but here's some not so great attempts:

The only folders I have at this moment is SOG mini x-ray and Kershaw Zin, my box cutters.

The Kershaw opens up to be 6 7/8" and the SOG 7"

The pictures don't do this Tripwire any justice, you've got to feel this monster in your hand.

When do we get to see some shots of it being used? Maybe a review of what you like/dislike about how it handles? Cool knife either way, would love to own one.
