Hi folks, just received my first Carrillo knife today, I'm a little late to the game and missed out a good number of Carrillo's previous offerings...
However better late than never so I picked up the Tripwire model 6.
The knife came with a Pelican micro case, the foam inserts cushion the knife snugly and is perfect for transportation.
The knife itself is just wow...
Dwaine Carrillo makes knives with distinguishing style and they're as beautiful as they're tough.
This beast of a knife opens up to be more than 9 1/2" and 6" when folded.
The blade is a beefy chunk of satin CPM154 sandwiched between a monster slab of titanium and G-10.
Carrillo put a lot of thoughts into the design, I was most amazed by the built-in lock bar stopper. I don't know if this is his original design but it's nothing less than ingenious and only made possible by using such thick piece of ti frame.
The knife is engineered with exacting precision, the blade is perfectly centered, the lock up is super solid and it opens with ease with dual thumb studs.
Overall it is just wow, when holding it in your hand you just know this thing is rock solid and can take a good beating. Essentially it feels like a Strider custom SMF on steroid, a lot of steroid.
This is my first Carrillo but certainly will not be my last.
And this is the built-in lock bar stopper, a cylindrical stud that will press against the cut-out on the frame to prevent over-extension.
Everywhere you look there are high precision components made of solid materials.
I have not take it outdoor for field test yet but there's almost no doubt this Tripwire II is going to ace it, just an excellent knive.
