I am in search of one of these knives but before I do can anyone tell me about the utility factor. Would you say this knife is built for heavy utility more so than a slicer? I would like to be able to pry with it just a little bit and if I do I would not be prying a lot of weight. How about batoning and so on?
Does it carry nicely clipped to the inside of your front pocket? THat's what I love about my SnG CC. It disappears in my pocket making it easy for my hand to slide in out without catching the knife.

I have a 3 inch XM-18, and carries great in the pocket. The XM-18 IS one tough knife. I don't recommend prying with ANY knife, BUT, that is kinda what the Spanto tip is built for. I don't baton with folders, so I can't help you there.

Between SNG and XM-18, due to blade geometry, I think SNG is a bit better slicer and XM-18 is a bit better pry bar.

Wouldn't baton with either.

XM-18 is heavy, but carries very well and has excellent pocket clip.

I don't have one but had one in for a sharpening a while back. Besides the obvious quality factor its a very ergonomic design that sits well in the pocket and is very smooth on the opening. The blade is thick enough to handle all your needs and then some but it needs a good re-profile before it will cut well. If a well Built and robust knife is what your looking for the XM-18 will fill that area just fine.

NEVER BATON A FOLDER

I have 3 3.5''. 2 Flippers and 1 nonflipper. I prefer the nonflippers myself, but they both carry really nice.

I never have and never will baton a folder but I was just trying to get an idea of what people had to say about its durability so I used the most drastic way to get a measure by using the term baton.

Hinderer knives are as durable as they come. That will not be an issue.:D

I would say that due to the titanium liner on the non locking side, the XM-18 is overall tougher than the SnG and the SnG is more than tough enough for a folder. The grind on the XM-18s are fairly thick but unless you're slicing deep into a lot of cardboard, I don't really think most people would notice the difference as long as the edge is sharp.

The XM-18 is one of the toughest designs for a folder on the market today. Batoning with it might still not be a good idea, but that means that most other folders would be in a worse situation if you tried to baton them.

Best part of the xm-18 is it has the fit and finish of a sebenza, yet as hardcore as a strider.

Definitely not a slicer. Very thick blade and a very thick tip. Hinderer designed that for himself to stand up to whatever abuses a fireman might have to put a knife through.

Yea I didn't think it would be a great slicer but it may be good enough. i have a full ground Spyderco Manix 2 that is the best slicer I have ever had.
