I have an old pivot Umnumzaan that I haven’t carried much since it came back from the spa. I love it and want to bring it back into the carry rotation, but I’m hesitant to beat up something that’s irreplaceable. I also know it might be a bit valuable. What do you guys think? I know a lot of you will just say “carry it” but how much are the old pivot’s going for? If I do not carry it, I’ll be getting a new style umnum to edc.

Thoughts?

Thanks all!

Carry it! I rotate mine in a day or two every 10 days or so. (I have 3 Sebenzas I rotate with)
If you buy a newer one , I suggest one made after I think 2014 or so.. they upped the heat treat to 59-60. Real nice upgrade.

It's true that the knife is irreplaceable, but it's also nearly indestructible. Of course, money is still a thing. If that's your concern, sell it. If not, just enjoy your knife. Get a newer version later and appreciate both. This is just my perspective but I get the most out of the CRK experience when I carry the knives. New knives on a pedestal are pretty but I share no bond with them.

When ( yes when not if) I decide to buy yet another zaan it will be an OP and it will go into my pocket and be used every chance I get. Cost and the law be damned!

If it’s not for collection purposes only, why not put it into your rotation ? They’re meant to be used. If the value means more to you than using the knife, sell it.
I can understand if you have several to use and decide to keep that one in mint condition, but if it’s your only Umnumzaan, why deny yourself the satisfaction it will bring from using the knife.
Chances are, if you use the knife, you won’t want/need to buy another one. You’ll save yourself some money down the road.
