I'm looking for a new pocket knife. Currently I have a CQC7B. It seems rather large and aggressive looking. I've thought about a mini-stryker. Does anyone know if it is smaller than the CQC7?

Also, does anyone know what the laws regarding folding knives are in Kentucky?

Aggressive looking?

I have both of those knives. The CQC7B is cool because it is aggressive looking. The mini is smaller, but if you are looking for a daily carry that is small and still useful I suggest you look at the Sypderco Calypso J.R. If you want to spend some money check out Chris Reeve’s Sebenzas which are worth every penny. If you really want a Mini Stryker let me know and I have a used one.

The above is just my opinion on the knives I own.

A CCDW will allow you to carry any size knife, folder or fixed blade, as well as firearms, martial art equipment, etc.

I have been a cop here for 6 1/2 years and have never charged anyone with a folding non auto knife for CCDW. Even here in Louisville it is common to see people with folders (usually spyderco or benchmade) clipped to their pockets. 527.020 also states that any knife that is not a "regular pocket knife" or a "regular hunting knife" is a deadly weapon, hence the razor and butcher knife case law. Autos, shuriken, nunchaku, and slap/blackjacks are also specified as deadly weapons. In short, I don't believe you will have a problem with the 7b or the mini striker, but a ccw permit is so easy to get, you might as well get one.

I used to live there. In reference to your question about the law--in KY anyone can carry a loaded handgun without a permit--as long as it is in clear view, and not concealed. I would imagine that the same would hold true for a knife.

I am a bit of a traditionalist and prefer "ordinary" or "regular" pocketknives. Some examples are the Schrade Old Timer Middleman 3 bladed stockman or the equivalents from other manufacturers, or similar knives. Of course the old standby utility style pocketknifes such as the Boy Scout pocketknife are good too and not very likely to violate many laws or be taken from you. They are a bit large though and I prefer to carry mine in a blet pouch. Then there are the various Swiss Army knives - same story.

I guess the wildest I get is by carrying a Gerber EZ Out Junior in my waistband at the small of my back.

But to each his/her own.
