I've been trying to find a good dagger that I can wear inside the waistband and I've narrowed it down to the-

1. Gerber Guardian Backup
2. Cold Steel Counter Tac I/II or
3. SOG Pentagon Mini

Which do you think would be best and why?

I see that you are new here. It's generally not a good idea to start more than one thread asking the same question in the same place.

this one's a little different. I narrowed it down to three instead of asking for any model. I think I like the mini pentagon right now too btw

Still vote for the Cold Steel or pick up an old Camillus off ebay and have someone make you a custom kydex sheath for $20.

The handle design of the mini pentagon is going to lose more energy when you stab some thing and sheath design make it harder to get a full, solid grip during a draw.

A handle that swells only at top and bottom of the handle means unless it fits your hand perfectly, you are going to get movement when you go to poke something with a lot of force and it has any resistence at all. With a swell in the middle and especially if designed well for thumb capping you have the ability to apply the most efficient force without the sliding hand energy loss.

A lot of tactical knife designs are sexy or cool iterations of older, classic designs without input of people who actually have a good amount of experience training or stabbing things. If you can get your full grip on the knife and it's designed properly to be locked in position as much as possible then your training and skills are the only thing that matters.

You will probably be ok with any of them so if the mini pentagon speaks to you it's your baby. Get a different one a few months later and do a few tests and fondling, then gift the least liked one to a friend or family member.

Can't speak for the Gerber, but I do like the CounterTac's. Pretty sturdy little knife and it'll do what it's intended to do. I'm with you, though. I'm liking the Pentagon Mini. I'm not using mine for IWB though, instead I'm actually attaching mine to my chest rig. I'm sure those serrations can cut straps, people, and just about everything else I need it for.
