Carry Laws in Mexico

Now I would figure in a country where folks routinely carry machetes around there should not be a problem with a personal blade, but I also have traveled enough to not want to get a nasty suprise on my next trip, so I want to ask first.

I will be traveling to Mexico for a month or so, mostly in the Yucatan. I usually carry a SAK along with a larger folder or small fixed blade - both of the more "tactical" persuasion. Any problems that I might encounter there? I am not going to be dealing in drugs, overthrowing the government or looking for drunken brawls, but there is always the chance of an encounter with local authorites, soooo: Any advice most appreciated - thanks!

Having been to Mexico, I would advise against bringing ANYTHING that could be considered a weapon. Fixed blades of the "tactical" persuasion are probably a bad idea. The SAK is probably okay, though.

The federal police there are pretty indiscriminate about what they will and won't do, confiscate/let go, etc. If they decide you're in violation of the law, whether guilty or not, you're in big trouble.

Certainly if you're stopped for a search at the border by customs, you'll have some explaining to do.

Mexico is a different world. Well, different country anyway, lol. Be careful.
