Carry on college campuses

I'm in the process of looking at colleges right now and I was just wondering if most schools prohibit carrying knives on campus. Thanks in advance.

Tough question to answer. Your best bet is to check the catalog for each place you've applied to. If they say something, you have your answer. If not, then it's OK...but that doesn't mean you can carry a sword across campus! :> Nobody's going to get their nose out of joint if you have a small folder in your pocket. But remember to be careful how you "show it off". In other words, in the absence of a rule against them on campus, follow your own common sense.
Good luck with your choice (I assume it'll be based on academic programs rather than whether you can carry a knife) and the next four years!

My school has a rule against carrying "weapons" on campus grounds. To me a knife is a tool, but the AFCK stays in the car while the Grip 550 takes pocket carry along with a SAK.

With schools, there are rules applying to students, and then there are the laws that apply to everyone. If the rules applying to students are stricter than the law, then a legal knife may still result in expulsion or other sanctions for a student. Many states have specific laws regarding knives on school property. I believe Florida is such a state.

When I transferred to USF, I called the USFPD to find out about pocket knives and length, and carry, etc. They were very helpful. Watch out, though-Living on Campus may involve different rules, and "weapons" is a term you may want to narrow down.

BTW-Hi, Rex!

Rex made a very important point. In Georgia it is against the law to carry a knife on any school grounds. You need to check the rules of the University and the State laws (especially if it is a State University).

Actually the law was changed either last year or the year before. Any folding knife with a blade under two inches is legal.

Check the campus laws for the specific college, and follow that. Having said that, as long as you use common sense you should be ok. I usually carry a SOCOM M/A in my pocket and never had any problems with it on campus.

At my Uni (Toledo), it's easy: There are no laws specific to campus. As long as you follow the T.M.C., you can carry most anything. I have a self-enforced limit of 4 1/4 OAL, but that's just me. You'll see plenty of Spyders and multis on campus.
