Can a ESEE 4 carry horizontally on your belt comfortably? Alternately do people have pictures of how they attach it to your non tactical pack pack like my Kelty 3100?

I have not found any horizontal carry of a blade over three inches to be comfortable or convenient.

I carry both my H.E.S.T. and 5 horizontally with a Tek-lok and I find it pretty comfortable, 4 shouldn't be a problem

I've carried the rc4 and the busse cabs horizontally and the only uncomfortable thing about it were the stares I got from sheeple. The 4 sits on my belt just fine.

I use that same pack Niagara. It's my favorite hiking pack btw. You might be able to use a Tek-lok on the lumbar belt, but since I don't have one I can't say for sure. Here is how I've been carrying my ESEE-6 in mine. I can still reach back and grab it pretty easy but I'm not sure how easy it would be with the 4 since it's a little shorter.

Now we're talking. Let's turn this into a Redwing 3100 pron thread. I've got that same pack MtnDude, love it.

I do wish it had more attachment points though. I don't put my knife on the outside of the pack. I'm either wearing it or it goes in the side pocket or the vertical zipper pocket where Mtn has his keys hanging.

The pass through side pocket where he has his 6 is also a great place to carry a Lite Machete. :D

I don't carry my 4 horizontally, I've never cared for that position. You could do it with paracord belt loops or a Tek Lok though I reckon.

I hear ya on the attachment points Adam. I wish mine had some molle attachments but it's no big deal. Kelty packs are definitely the shiz if your into backpacking. I'd say over half the people I've run into on the Appalachian Trail use Kelty packs. I carry my F1 vertically on my belt, but it's a drop down sheath and doesn't interfere with the waist belt on my pack. That pass thru pocket is neat though. It's where I've carried my fishing pole when I go hiking over in NC to go trout fishing. I'll say this, I've tried a lot of packs and Kelty really knows how to make them. Affordable too. Got mine for $67 tax and all.

I'll get a pic up of my Kelty Rewing 3100 when I get back home in a few days. I love that pack and at the price point of $51 bucks you can't beat it. I carry my Machete or Axe in one side and my 6 in the other like you do.

You do it horizontally on the small of your back? If you had any pics I think visualizing it would help.

I have some tek-loks and knives I need to set up.....been too busy talking to you guys on here to set up my carry-around bags with my new knives. I'll provide picks when done.

I used to carry mine horizontally with the MOLLE clips on my belt. If you're going carry it this way just don't make any plans to sit down :/

I find belt carry in general to be cumbersome because of my coat always getting in the way. I like my knife to be on my person, however, so going in the pack is out. What I am going to do is get a drop leg thigh rig with Molle webbing and secure it to that, so it can still be on my person on the strong hand side but out of the way of my coat or pack belt harness. Also, a small pouch with some survival essentials, such as my ferro rod, some tinder, and other PSK items can go in the pouch. I've also though about a baldric, but I think the thigh rig would work better for me.

I carry my 4 horizontal at about 3 o'clock. Great position since I am left-handed and can grab it with ease.

Ive been trying to figure out how to carry my hest, the most comfortable for me is horizontal @ about 5-6 o'clock but then it rubs leather seats wrong ... I'm stuck too

I've found out that he HEST Pry Bar gets stuck on a lot of things also....I had it in my coat and also thought it was going to poke through my jacket! A similar thing occurred with it in my front pocket, it aways was catching on things.

Gotta figure out a better way to carry that.

that pry bar was one thing i was a little hesitant about when looking at the HEST. its a bad ass looking knife, but i was worried about exactly what you guys are saying. plenty of people on here EDC them, i'm sure someone has some input but probably won't be coming into a "carry options for ESEE 4" thread.

Hey guys,

Wanted to draw your attention to what I did to my HEST, I've never tried the TEC LOK, but this is really comfortable in comparison to the MOLLE locks.

I wear it at 7:00-the handle is in the small of my back. I found that wearing it at 6 caused the handle to poke out WAY too much. So find a local leatherworker/artisan or send it to me if you want a good leather carry!

I tried this today around the house and out to dinner to see how comfortable it was. Shirt untucked of course. It was pretty comfortable but i would like it to hang a tad lower into the pocket. Im going to fab something similar to a boot clip but it will come higher so that it will hang a bit lower and i wont have to use the belt. The knife is a 4. I tried horizontally on the belt front and back and unless im wearing a jacket, it prints, and i hate that.
