Hi I've been carrying a lockblade with clip clipped to my pocket forever. I just bought a case Trapper. I love the knife and want to EDC it. I took it with me today and hated the damn thing flopping around in the bottom of my pocket. How does everyone carry their traditional folders?

I have a cordura nylon pouch with a velcro flap that goes on my belt just behind my cell phone on my right hip. Its just wide enough to carry my stockman or sak and the small AAA Dorcey flashlight I got from the 'mart side by side. This keeps it cleaner than floping around in a pocket with change, lint, and stuff, and I don't have to dig around if I want my knife or light.

a leather open top sheath would work very well. I'm lucky i don't mind them flopping around in my pocket. later, ahgar

I found that it works pretty good to carry the traditional folder in the watch pocket. That's what I do with my stockman.

another vote for the watch/change pocket on jeans.

also the hidden cellphone pocket on some chinos.

I'm fortunate in that my Sodbuster Jr. carries practically unnoticable in my front pocket. Of course I make it a point not to put anything else in there now. I tried the same knife in my watchpocket but it stuck up enough and was loose enough that it came out of the pocket now and then.

An open top leather sheath, kind of like the make for Bic lighters, but for knives of course, is a great wat to carry a full size knife. I'll probably make a few for some of my knives it I ever get around to it.

I carry a SAK in my pocket and rest it up against my cell phone. It still moves around but not as much. You might try those sack ups for knives. It may help your knife stay put in your pocket.

I carried knives with a pocket clip for many years, and ran into the same thing when I got into slip joints.

I cannot highly recommend enough a William Henry clip case like:

I have the two largest size versions, and they fit just about everything I carry. The big one handles anything around 4 inches long like a big stockman or trapper. The smaller one fits things in the 3 1/2 inch range like a small stockman or whittler.

I have found that they allow me to carry a much larger knife than I would have normally carried if it was just banging around in my pocket. Plus, they give you easier access to the knife, and protect it from your keys/change.

Now, if I could just afford a bunch of William Henry's to go in them....

Not many options if you insist on pants carry. Shirt or jacket carry may be better for you but you may not have shirts with pockets or want to carry a jacket.

If you are talking about traditional knives in looks and not just a lack of lock, and you want a belt sheath, then I'd suggest a leather sheath in tan or brown to complement your knife.

Another pocket option it to make a stitched on three sides knife sleeve (some call these knife slips) and attach a 1/2" leather strap to it. Strap goes on your belt and the knife is tucked into your pocket keeping it up right and lint-free. Slower to put to use but you are talking about a traditional pocket knife and not a one-handed tactical folder.

I buy large scraps of exotic leathers and make my own slipcases. All I do is cut a piece for an exact fit and then glue the edges/seams with Barge Contact Cement. Stronger than stitching.

Loose stuff in my pockets has never bothered me, there's cellphones and combs and change and truck keys and notepads and medicine bottles and anything else I happen to need that particular day. I carry knives ranging from 3-1/2" SAK's all the way up to 5-1/4" folding hunters, never feel them.

Thanks for all the great replies. I'm going to try to make a slip cover and try to find a small clip to keep it in place. for now I'll just have to get acustom to the change.
