I am playing with various ways to carry my knives. Currently my carry knives are my NO-E and SJT. Larger/smaller to come. :D

I currently use a standard leather belt. Nothing fancy.

(1) Do any of you guys use a separate belt just for your knives? Like a gun belt. Something that does not go through your pant loops. I find that my heavier knives will start to pants me after a while.

(2) How do the dundee/shoulder rigs feel?

(3) I have been thinking of trying out the NO-E and SJT in the horizontal/scout position. To free up my side for my firearm (one fo the reasons). Anyone try this.

(4) anything I missed.

Pics would be great.

Thanks guys.

Good questions! thanks for asking Tyrkon.

I'm curious too... on the FBM, MR, and soon the BA TAC. I'm definitely thinking giving the FBM its own belt… something on the heavier side (I just hate being pants… especially by my mistress! :D ).

Lets see some pics!

I have a Mercharness that I picked up from Mercop that I carry my M6 on. www.mercop.com It's this little paracord deal that lets you wear the blade under your arms. It's EXTREMELY comfortable! The only thing I did was mod up some of my own paracord to hold the M6 in the sheath. The weight of the knife upside down caused it to come out of the sheath easier than I like so I added some security.

Otherwise, I carry it on my belt. I am thinking of going with a gun belt though. The M6, Swisstool, and 1911 all on the right side tend to drag the belt down a bit much.

In the field I have my SH-E or FBM on a separete belt with other gear but anything smaller can stay on my regular belt.

I haven't given much thought to carrying larger Busse blades as I don't have any in my possession yet, but I may look into a separate belt now that you mention it. Also, I looked at that Mercharness and saw no reason why I couldn't make that myself out of 550, so I did and it seems to work alright with my Public Defender.

Wow, those middle school kids are so tough you go packin' now? ;)

Heh heh heh. Actually I just had the Los Angeles Sherriffs Dept. burst into my class. Actually about 2 months ago. It was one of my classess jammed packed with kids who, how should I put this, need to be checked up on. Not one of my honors classes in other words. They had the kids taken outside and searched. The students had to leave all of their belongings in my class and the Sherriffs had one of their K9s sniff everything looking for contraband. It was cool to watch that pup in action. It was quite the story and still is. I hope they come again as these kids need to be put in check constantly. But I digress...

So just in case I need to carry at school (just kidding guys) here is a rig that interests me. One of LeatherHogs. The Dundee rig I believe.

Anyone use this for an NO-E/SJT sized knife?

It's nothing fancy, just a single strand of 550 routed through the holes on the kydex sheath and then around my arms and neck in the fashion of that type of harness. It seems to work though and I think I'll wear it like that for a day and see how I like it.

i have LeatherHogs dundee rig for my ho sjtac, and i like it alot. very adjustable, many carry options. you can also just remove the strap and belt carry. i also like the offside or calvary carry when wearing a sidearm.

I altered the paracord idea usng a leather pad to keep the cord from pulling at my underarm and also to be able to accomodate a heavier blade. I used a break away chain to attach the sheath to the paracord. I secured the chain to the inner filaments so it is quite secure.

I'm happy with my S.O.E. Riggers belt and Spec-Ops Survival sheath.

For me it all depends on what gun I'm carrying. If I'm packin a sixgun on a gunbelt I carry my HR in a Spec Ops combat master with a custom insert specifically for my HR. This allowed me to use the short combat master instead of the longer one with extraneous length.

But if Im not wearing a gunbelt and am using a IWB holster I carry my SJT in a kydex sheath with tek-lok on my pants belt.

I always carry my fixed blades off-hand, edge forward.. This way I can draw with either hand.

I carry a sidearm strongside daily and carry various fixed blades up to SJT size weak side on a fairly stiff trousers belt. I do have to wear loose fitting shirts with the tail out for concealment but have no problems carrying in this manner. I use a Leatherman kydex fusion for the SJT size blades.

Check out the Okuden A-7, on a purpose designed gun belt. Thick leather gun belts are even sturdier than rigger's belts, for the purpose of carrying kit. And they look quite normal to the casual observer, so you can depend on them for IWB duties moreso than riggers belts. A good belt costs about $40-130 though, with varying quality. I'd recommend buying one you can get your hands on rather than shopping online (unless you get a solid recommendation from a trusted source, of course).
