I on the most part always carry at least 2 and sometimes 3 knives. Most of the time it is a small fixed blade or large folder and a small slippie. after reading the post What the old timers used I have decided to simplify things and carry only one knife. My choice is a large stockman. I have several but they are keepsakes from friends and family. I do how ever have a Uncle Henry 885uh. Its brand new but I have no box or paper work. I know that these are becoming collectable. :)Should I carry it or buy myself a Case Large Stockman in amber bone and cv. Thanks

Carry and enjoy it. You'll probably get a lot more pleasure from it that way than you will from whatever profit you might gain from it later on. Just my opinion of course.

(P.S...You should still get the Case... ;))

I'd carry it & give it the use it deserves. There will always be a few old U.S. Schrades around, so if you don't have the box or papers, make it your EDC for a while. It'll be that much more special when it gets passed on to a future generation. The Schrade Uncle Henry line used Schrades' stainless steel, which I think was 440A. If the tang stamp says SCHRADE+, then it's the stainless. Schrade did a good job with the heat-treat, so you've got yourself a good one there.

But, since it's stainless...heck, get the Case in CV too. Always good to have a backup, and a little variety too.

Carry it. I carry and use every knife in my collection, even if it's just one at a time ;)

Carry it!

My collection likely has a very low value as I have put almost all of them in my pocket at least once. I have no regrets. I have had a wonderful time experimenting with patterns and sharing my hobby. With that in mind, carry it and have fun!

I too, vote "carry it". It's a simple production knife. Schrade made tens of thousands of them most likely, so you'll get more than your money's worth out of using it.

carry.
i was in the same boat as you. finally had a moment of clarity and have never enjoyed the knife more than i do now though it's been with me for 15 years.

Yep on both accounts.... I have an very early UH Trapper that has the outstanding carbon steel blades. It is not mint, but has been used and loved, and still looks nice. And like most Schrades with 1095 steel, they take an incredible edge with little work.

If it where me I would take it out and use it. You will have it with you everyday and it will become part of your daily life with loads of memories to go with it.

Let us know what you decide and post some pics when you get a chance......:)

As usual, Blues gave the correct answer. Carry the knife AND buy a new Case. That's the only sensible choice. :D

Hard steel against soft tissue, twine, cardboard, light plastic, maybe wood... If you use your knife properly it ought to last forever or almost forever if it is anything close to a decent knife. I truly see no reason for not using a knife, any knife. Of course, some knives have diamonds or emeralds and handles made of gold or some such, but those, I'd say, are more jewelry than a proper knife, and I can see why its owner might want to keep it away from a fresh carcass.

Having said that, I have one knife, one, with ivory scales that I haven't had the two to use properly. But that's mainly because the climate where I live is way too humid and I'm afraid the ivory might crack if I keep it too exposed to the elements. So I have an excuse. In other words, it is your knife and you do with it as you please. But you knew that...!

I agree with Blues carry it, buy yourself a Case and while you're at it a Queen stockman in D2 just to add a mix to your EDC. :D

Ya know, my Mother would say to me years before she left this world about saving things and not using them, like her glasses/dinnerware she would save for some special day and not use them because they were too nice and not replaceable.

IMHO Use it and enjoy it today because tomorrow may never come.

I say go ahead and cut away!! Just like others said before!
take good care of it and then everytime you use it,
It can remind you of the folks who got it or gave it to you!
Enjoy it!!

Being a Schrade man I agree whole heartedly with the group, use that thing and if you want a Case buy it and use it too. Both great knives.

Thanks for all the replys guys, The 885 is gouing in my pocket this morning. I also found a hidden gem in my knife chest last night. I will post pics of both later today. Once again thanks.
