carry question

The only time I ever carry a non-folder is when I go camping. I carry a folder all the time.

Like Mike, I only carry a folder, a 110FG in fact. Where I live, unless your hunting/camping it's frowned on.

When I ride, I usually carry either a 119 or 120. Once on a 3k trip, I took my 890tx. Around town (like WalMart) it's a 105 or the 119.
Now, that being said, lately around town I carry a set of two folders. One is always my 889SBMF and the other may be something else outta my folder rotation...112, 110, or 298GY.

I always have a folder or 2 on me, but the only time a fixed blade goes in public is duck, goose, grouse, rabbit, squirrel, and deer seasons.
Usually just gas stations or quick stop at grocery store though, I tend to not carry in wal mart :D

When I do though it would be a Vanguard, Zipper, or SLH Custom :D

i was thinking of geting a small buck kneck knife for regular carry...i work on the bad side of memphis so some times a don't feel safe...

Like Juggler said, fixed blades are a little frowned upon here unless you are dressed in your hunting garb. So I carry a 110 on my belt and a smaller folder or multitool in my pocket I'd feel comfortable carrying a shorter fixed blade like a mini alpha or something like that.

I think a neck knife would be a great alternative... guess I need to get one!

Goose: have you ever received negative comments strolling through housewears with a 119 on your hip?

Goose: have you ever received negative comments strolling through housewears with a 119 on your hip?

I have had four incidents:

1> In Wyoming while wearing my 889 BS Tanto a gent sitting with a group of locals told me that Wyoming has a "palm width law". I told him to call the police.

2> At a auto parts store someone asked me if the 120 was legal to carry. I replied "yes".

3> While being detained, Five-0 took off my Ka-Bar and returned it to me when released (actually, they put it in saddle bag and told me not to take it out until I was out of their sight)

4> When my brothers and I were in a bar, the manager asked two of us wearing fixed blades to remove them as it made some customers nervous. We said "ok, but they should be more concerned about what they can't see". Went outside and came back. Our knives were still "close" to us.

California has fair knife laws. People out here are accustomed to seeing fixed blades on thugs and those they think are thugs.

I have never carried a fixed blade. Even when I go in the woods or camping I am not "carrying" it. It may be with me but it's not on my person. It's usually at camp or in a backpack I carry with me.

During cold weather when long shirts and jackets are worn, I always carry my fixed blade along with my folders.

In the warm season when its Tshirt weather I only carry my folders, Spyderco clipped on my pocket, the the Katz on my leather belt sheath when I travel in town or social events. In the country though, I am almost always with my fixed blades or very close to them.

I would never admit to a cop that I was carrying my knife for personal protection but at the same time one of the assisted opening folders, like a Rush, can be a great leveler and be intimidating as all get out. The sheeple need never know you have a knife or why.

I carry fixed blades when in the bush travelling or hunting. At home or on the bike I carry a 110 or 112 for outside stuff. At work I carry a 501 which is the largest folder that in my view is comfortable in a pair of jeans. I'll throw the 119 or 120 in my overnight bag when travelling for work. The 501 is one of my favs.

I guess the way i see it is if you don't make a big deal out of it then nobody else will. but if you go around flashing with a manic stare they might just call the cops.

i asked becuse i went camping and right before we went i wore it in to wally world, and people kinda stared, but i forgot i even had it on till my feance told me to "put that thing up..." (actual quote) i told her no way. i liked it.

i tell you what, if you wereing a 119 people won't mess with you. as soon as they see the flash of silver from the handle they sure do shut up... and also it makes me and my fieance feel a whole lot safer if we decide to wear when we walk downtown.

Why do these stories not surprise me Goose? :D Pennsylvania has lax knife laws too (anything but "switchblades" may be carried unless restricted by a local ordinance) but walking down the street with a General hanging from your belt would raise eyebrows.

I would never admit to a cop that I was carrying my knife for personal protection ...
I have been advised that it is a utility tool that I have in case I need to cut a flat off my rim, hoses, wires, picking your teeth, whatever...it is a "tool".
Will is right, if you say you are carrying it for protection a whole can of worms will open up.

Your mileage may vary...
