I have a number of nice blades to choose from. As a matter of fact they are mostly limited edition, sprint runs, etc. My question is:

Do you carry and use your limited edition/sprint run knives as an EDC, or do you generally find a more common/less expensive version of the same knife, or just carry a cheaper alternative?

I know they are tools, but do you worry about resale value/collectibility?

resale value is only important if you don't use them and/or plan to sell the knives.

p.s. i carry my para 2 20CP sprint more than my para 2 regular version.

It's personal preference but if your asking me. I don't collect, everything I have is intended for and get's used.

At least on the production spectrum of knives, the sprint run/limited edition versions usually seem to be made with a higher-end blade steel. If you are collecting purely for aesthetic value, I think your money could be better spent on a custom knife. The sprint run/limited editions that I have I EDC with no worries.

Heck yes. My regular EDC's vary between a BM Ritter Grip which will be soon getting custom grips, a sprint run Spydie, and a Darrel Ralph HTM. And honestly, if I ever get my custom knife, I'm gonna use it too. I will never buy a knife that I'm too afraid to use because of how it looks. I don't generally use my knives TOO hard, but they're all users, no matter what the cost.

i don't collect things that i dont use. now if i was a wealthy guy with lots of cash for collecting rarities, and high end pieces...then i might think differently.

sometimes i am tempted to buy a nicer custom or limited edition/sprint run bigger dollars type knife, but then i sit and back and think would i carry it and use it...if i decide i won't then i don't buy it. you just have to decide what kind of user/collector you are.

I have more knives than I need. I have more knives than I'll ever need.

Some the members here have quadruple the amount of knives I have and yet they are all users. Fantastic.

I have probably 3 knives that I consider my current favorites and those are the ones I carry as of right now. The other knives I have will be used some time or another but I see no point in switching my EDC out every day of the month just so I can say all my knives are users. I have a few knives that will probably never see daylight because I bought them to collect. The majority of the others will be used, when the time comes.

I'm in the same boat. I have about a dozen pocket knives, and they're all working knives. Some do get favored more than others based on what I'm using them for, but they all get used. None of the ones I have are collectibles (ie. custom, rare vintage) or particularly expensive (none cost me more than $30), so there isn't as much financial risk if one gets broken/lost/stolen.

Just stick to your first few words- you have a lot of blades to choose from. Just designate a few to the EDC rotation-no matter of $$ etc-just about how you feel about them as a user-and the rest go to the safe. Best of both worlds imho. Safe queens sit tightly in the safe and the users all get the snot beaten out of them.
