Is a tomahawk considered to be a concealed weapon in most states? What about Colorado? If I were to go into the hills of a "state park" with it in my backpack would this be a problem? I know that a knife with a blade of over 3 1/2 inches is considered to be illegal in Colorado.

I don't know about colorado, but if I was you I will call the local Police Station and ask their Guns registration office or something like that for asking them!

I think in most states it's better if the axe is exposed. However, if it's packed up and you can't get to it I can't see them hassling you.

It's a complicated question depending on the context, intent and good sense of the LEO involved. Hiking in camping and firewood country with a hatchet in your backpack? You'd likely not be prosecuted, never mind convicted. But if you have a concern, lash it to the outside of your pack, or belt carry which is how I would carry anyway.

The knife would be OK in CO if you had if visable, same w/ the hatchet, although I don't know if there are any differences on Federal Land.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas. I know that these things are never cut and dried. Too bad law abiding people even have to think about these things... When I was a kid you could roam all over the country and city with knives, BB guns, and whatever and no one even thought twice. Of course people in those days were more respectful of everything and everyone... for the most part.

I looked into the laws in Texas about concealed weapons & illegal weapons.. concerning carrying a hawk/hatchett & other throwing weapons..

hawks & hatchets & axes are mentioned no-where in the illegal weapons section.. also:

u can possess/conceal illegal weapons (throwing knives/stars) on your own property.

u can possess them when they are required for an activity or sport & you are enroute to said activity or sport. (camping or throwing competition, etc.)

best to keep knives, axes, etc. in the trunk of your car till you get where you're going & then to keep them visible when you're on foot.. i'd say..

but, like if i'm going to a knife show & my knife has an illegal (texas) pummel on the end, its ok, as long as its in my trunk & the cops in a good mood & i sound convincing.. now whether they let u in the auditorium with it, dunno, they usually dont care about long knives & pummels at gun/knife shows..

blah...

u could always websearch for the concealed/illegal weapons laws in your own state..
