carrying a flashlight onto a plane...

Going to NY on friday. My wife has expressed an interest in NOT checking baggage, so I cant take a knife in my carry-on.

I am thinking of getting a flashlight-not sure which one yet- and carrying it on me into the plane. Obviously going through security and such.

Anyone tried this and run into issues with security? I won't hide it on my person, as I will pass it through the metal detector along with keys, wallet, etc.

Thanks for the input.

I have taken a Maglite Solitaire on a plane with no problems. It went through the X-ray on my key ring.

I carry my H2 tactical every week. I'm somewhat surprised i've never been asked to check it since the bezel has scalloped edges. It's been on a easy 30 flights in last 12 mo's. Great light also.

I carried a fenix LOD and a sure fire E1E on my person when I flew last. They just looked at it, I thought they would take it apart at least but they didn't.

As long as it isn't something with a sharp edge (for example the Surefire E2D) you should be fine. I have never had problems with my Inova 24/7.

I've flown with my Surefire E2 many times never a problem. It does not have the strike bezel of the E2D. I think the strike bezels are way over rated it makes a pretty shitty improvised weapon marginally less shitty in my opinion at the risk of much more hassle and possible confiscation. While I will give you the fact that I don't want to have an E2D jammed into my eye, I don't want a standard E2 jammed into my eye either.

I carry a surfire L1 with me on every flight I take and have never had any problems at all.
I just put it in the tray along with my wallet and keys etc.

I fly from the UK to Taiwan twice a year and often stop at places inbetween for a few days and have had no problems any where.
I dont know if the US is any worse or better than the UK for stuff like that.

Well, If I can fly in canada with one, I think you should be fine!:D

I had a Inova X0 and a Few tactical looking cheapies with me, they asked what they were, I turned them on and their asked what do you need them for?
I told them the over head lights aren't bright enough for reading.:D

I've carried one of the older Surefire Z2 combat lights, and the L1B backup onto planes in the US, Taiwan, India, etc. and so long as the security person sees it as a flashlight, they'll let you go.

Flashlights tend to be very "low profile" items when going around. My pens and various small gear tend to really receive more attention than my flashlights ever have.

Here's a list and photo of the stuff I carry when flying.

Cell Phone

Ive carried my backup and spare batteries constantly...

And I think you must be joking moon, have you not read the tacical case peanut book? In the right hands its worse than any type of explosive...

My choice of lights for air travel is the E1 Backup from SureFire---very compact, pretty nonthreatening-looking, and with plenty of defense applications should the need arise.

So I can carry a pair of scissors with 4" blades onboard, but not a Case peanut?

Or how about the fact that you can carry a screwdriver 7 inches or less, but not a Kubaton? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense..... Guess nobody at the TSA has ever accidentally jabbed themselves with a screwdriver.
