Carrying a large fixed blade on a belt with a pistol?

I just got a Becker BK7 and I'm trying to figure out how to work it into my carry system.

I carry a Glock pistol every day in either a Threat Solutions UCR or Desantis Scorpion Kydex holster, strong side, IWB. I carry a spare mag on the off side in a Glock mag pouch. I also carry a 3-4" fixed blade, horizontal at 11:00. Mostly, a CUDA CQB II for defensive use and occasionally a RAT 3 when hiking. All of this rides on a Wilderness 5 stitch belt.

I EDC one of several Benchmade Axis folders clipped in my front right pocket and a small Surefire in the left.

I'd like to be able to carry the BK7 as an outdoors blade on occasion and drop the smaller fixed blade. It needs to be comfortable for long periods of walking as well as sitting. I want to be ale to access it easily with my strong side hand without it interfering with my folder, light, mag, and most importantly, my pistol.

The Becker came with a nice thin kydex sheath but no attachment method. It's spaced for a large Tek Lok but I'm not sure if that's how I want to go. I think a large fixed blade would be more comfortable with some sort of dangler or dropped rig.

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions from those who carry a large fixed blade with a pistol. Pics would be especially helpful.

Horizontal on belt week side access with a 9 in a fobus pancake holster rt side/strong side.

Sounds like you have enough weight on your belt already, for occasional outdoors use a Baldric rig set up cross-draw might be a good choice. Everything else stays as it is nice and familiar, and a Baldric is also nice when sitting.

Honestly, a Glock and a spare mag is barely noticeable on my belt. I've been carrying them for nearly 15 years so I feel naked without them. I'd like to stay away from any over the shoulder carry system as I'll be carrying a small pack.

Can you post pics of your current system? Sounds like a lot of stuff and I'm curious how it all looks. I used to carry primarily a fixed blade but now I feel self-conscious about going out with a fixed blade, the older I've gotten.

Can't post pics now but it's really rather simple: Gun on one side of belt, mag on the other. Folder in one pocket, light in the other.

The small fixed blade is horizontal at 11:00 but I won't be carrying it with the larger knife.

Small pack too, hmmm. Then maybe a dangler sheath in front of the mag pouch weak side, again with a cross-draw plan. I don't see too many other options, I look forward to what others can come up with.

Slide gun back to 4:00 strong side, knife at 2:00-3:00 strong side w drop rig. I wouldn't use a dangler. The butt of the knife would likely be flopping around and hitting your glock. (If you do go hiking with it)

This is what I use when I'm carrying both pistol and knife in the woods.

It does depend on what I'm carrying too,

I'm very fond of the molle belts they work really well. If I'm carrying my old 1911 I just use my old GI web gear.

If you're wearing a pack, how about attaching the knife sheath to a shoulder strap, maybe upside down for easier access? Or horizontally on your belt 6 o'clock (SOB) where you can reach for it easily? I've done both of these while wearing a pack, and it's totally unnoticeable.

Since you already have a smaller knife in your pocket, you can just keep the larger one in your pack. On the rare occasions that I carry a large knife or machete, I just strap it to the side of my pack (held by the compression straps).

This ^

I've never needed any more than a decent sized folder, immediately.

Boyscouts do quite well with a SAK in their pocket and a hatchet on their 'pack.

"D. Boone kilt bar here." If he wasn't carrying his knife on his belt, it could very well have said "D. Boone kilt here." :D

But I agree with the pack idea and yes, unless I am using it, my short machetes are on or in my pack. I actually find just carrying a full size handgun on my belt a bit heavy without adding a larger fixed blade.

That's why I suggested knife on the weak side and cross-draw. Better when sitting and would help balance out the pistol weight too.

I do that with larger knives and machetes but I got this knife specifically to carry on my belt. There are a lot of times when I want to carry the knife but won't be carrying the pack as well.
