Carrying knife into Venezuela?

Has anyone had any experience flying in Venezuela?

Later this summer I will be flying into Caracus aboard American Airlines and boarding Aeropostal to fly to another city in Venezuela. I'd like to carry my small Sebenza Classic, but I'm concerned about regs in Venezuela on Aeropostal.

I believe carrying on the street will be no problem. It's the airlines I'm concerned with.

Just put the knife on your suitcase (no carry bags), folders under 4" and unserrated are your best bet (no spyderco harpy!!)

Once you're in Caracas, carry it in your pocket as usual...

If you're going to a rural town after Caracas, (like the Amazon forest, Margarita island, the Llanos, Pto La Cruz or else) the rules are better regarding fixed blades but be aware of "Alcabalas Móbiles" or National Guard check points, your blade can get seized in no time....

If you need any other tips, please feel free to e-mail me!

regards,

Assuming you like your Sebenza as well as most CR owners, sounds like a pretty large risk to take, to me. I'd think about Opinels, or maybe a lower-end Spyderco, or CRKT. Haven't checked for a couple days, but the CRKT ApacheII was available at SMKW for $20. Maybe a couple of those would see you through your Latin America adventures.

Whatever you decide, best of luck!

Made it back early this AM. Carried an old Spydie in my checked in luggage, no problem.

Great trip! The people in Merida, Lagunilla and Mucutuy were beautiful and great to be around. Some scary driving in the Andes. You run off the road up there and you don't come back.

Brought back a little reminder despite my meticulous avoidance of the water and "suspicious food".

Oh, well . . .
